Obituary - Julia Merle Davis

Julia Merle Davis, 94, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions are suggestion to the American Diabetes Association.

Obituary - Cheryl Jean Strickland

Cheryl Jean Strickland, 73, of Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at the Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, MO. Cheryl was born February 26, 1947 in Coffeyville, KS to Ray and Edna C. (Allen) Strickland.

Cheryl was raised in Coffeyville, KS and graduated from Field Kinley High School in 1965. She attended Coffeyville Junior College for two years and graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1969 with a BS in Education. Cheryl taught school in Garnett, KS one year. In 1971 she came to Nevada where she began working in Vocational Rehabilitation at the Nevada State Hospital, and later the Nevada Habilitation Center. Cheryl later worked at 3M in Nevada for an additional seven years, and also helped with the Animal Shelter for several years.

Cheryl is survived by one sister, Vickie Hartzell, Coffeyville, KS; one sister-in-law, Sharon Strickland, Caney, KS; three nephews, Jason Hartzell, Josh Hartzell, and Allen Strickland. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Beth Strickland; one brother, Dean Strickland; and a brother-in-law, Jewell Hartzell.

No services are planned.

Henry County Health Center confirms 10 new positive cases of COVID-19

The Henry County Health Center has received notification of 10 more positive cases of COVID-19. (Clinton - 6, Windsor - 1, Deepwater - 2. and Creighton - 1)

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Obituary - Ruby Louise (Parks) Johnson

Ruby Louise (Parks) Johnson,89, Clinton passed away on November 23, 2020 at Research Medical in Kansas City, MO. Funeral service will be held at Vansant Mills Funeral Home, in Clinton Missouri on Friday November 27, 2020 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour before. Burial at Clinton Memory Gardens, Clinton Missouri. Memorials in Louise’s name can be made out to Mt. Zion Methodist Church.

Ruby Louise (Parks) Johnson, was born November 18, 1931 to Roscoe and Ninnie Parks. Louise married Walter Hiram Johnson, Jr. on June 1, 1949 and together they had 2 children Linda and Lane.

As a young girl she was involved with 4-H. In later years she loved to paint, make quilts and tend her garden.

Louise was always active in the Methodist Church and women’s Hope and Faith Club. Her faith in God was never questioned. She was a caregiver to many people over the years, and she leaves behind many friends whose lives have been enriched by her gentle kindness. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents and one sister Charlene Wetzel.

Surviving Louise is one brother, Dale Parks, Clinton, Missouri; her children Linda McSparin, Charleston West Virginia, Lane Johnson (Diana), Clinton Missouri, 6 grandchildren Valerie McSparin, Lexington, Kentucky, Erin Jacobs (Ben) Breinigsville, Pennsylvania; Clint Johnson, Clinton Missouri; Caleb Johnson (Jill) Ozark, Missouri; Amy Wirsig (Jared) Lees Summit Missouri; Krystal Phipps (Kevin), Wentzville, Missouri. 12 great grandchildren Jacob, Liam and Maggie Asbury, Bear and Evie Jacobs, Rhianne and Remington Johnson, Macey Packard (Jon), Jackson and Lily Wirsig, Kody Rhoades and Karley Kirk. 1 great-great grandson Lochland. Louise also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and so many friends. She will be missed dearly by all.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri.


Ribbon Cutting Complete for Mid America Live and Mid America Shopper

Obituary - Raymond Lee Eastland

Raymond L. Eastland, 79, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. 

The family will receive friends Saturday 11:00-noon at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Disabled Veterans.

Raymond was born December 12, 1940 in Ava, MO, a son of Chester Carl and Ila Lucille (Downs) Eastland. He grew up in Rogersville and was a 1959 graduate of Rogersville High School. Raymond was united in marriage to Janice Ilene Thompson on June 15, 1963 in Raytown, MO. Raymond worked in assembly for General Motors before his retirement. Raymond was very close to his family, and enjoyed family gatherings at the cabin. He loved to fish, ride motorcycles and dirt bikes, and go camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Eastland; and two sisters: Betty Clines and Wanda Kanuff. Raymond is survived by his wife of 57 years, Janice; two sons: Kenneth Eastland, Independence, MO; and David (Idel) Eastland, Lee’s Summit, MO; a daughter, Karen (Scott) Williams, Osceola, MO; two brothers: Donald Eastland, Elmo, MO; and Melvin (Shirley) Eastland, Ava, MO; one sister, Imogene White, Mt. Ayr, MO; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
