Obituary - Matthew S. McIntosh

Matthew S. McIntosh, 42, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Caney, KS. He was born on July 24, 1978. The family wishes to remember Matt before his illness, in hopes it will help others struggling with addiction.

Matt was known for his wit and charisma. In high school he made friends fast, he was a lifeguard and also a member of the National Honor Society. After graduating, he made the Dean's Honor Roll at Wichita State University, earning him a degree in Economics. Matt was extremely linguistic, known for being fluent in Spanish. Ever the joker, Matt would call his family members and speak only in Spanish, laughing on the other end with his infamous giggle. He enjoyed being outdoors. While he was still a kid himself, he became an uncle. Which is why Matt could usually be found on the trampoline, belly laughing with his nieces and nephews.

Matt later would become a father to three boys, passing down to each of them pieces of his sharpness and humor. He enjoyed teaching them how to play softball or how to bait a fishing hook. Matt had so many dreams. He dreamt of traveling to Spain, of becoming an architect, of finally defeating his battles, and of more fishing trips with his boys.

He will be missed by so many, and we pray that he is finally at peace, free from pain.

He is survived by his mother, Judy Vigil; three sisters, Amy Kline, Kristi Kutina, and Nicole McIntosh; two brothers, Spencer Vigil & Sarah Vallor Vigil, and Tyler Vigil; three sons, Trenton Samples, Shawnecey McIntosh, and Samuel McIntosh; along with nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Jackie McIntosh, and his stepfather, Steven Vigil.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 5th at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO (masks are required while in the building). Family and friends are encouraged to share memories after or may leave comments online via the funeral home website. Interment will follow, weather permitting, in St. James Cemetery in Milford, MO.
