Light Precipitation Today, Moving out tonight





















Light rain, with isolated areas of a wintry mix will continue off and on through the day. Watch out for some slick spots on elevated roads. 

Precipitation moves out by the mid to late afternoon.

Milo woman injured in accident in Butler

On 12/2/20 around 5:48pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Butler Police Department along with Butler Fire Department responded to a accident on the overpass of 52 West Highway and I-49 in Butler.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Kenworth driven by 56 year old Robert D. Gillespie of Butler rear ended a 2015 Ford Escape driven by 63 year old Carol A. Stroud of Milo, Missouri.

Carol A. Stroud sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment. 

Both vehicles were damaged and towed from the scene of the crash by Douty's Tow of Butler and J's Southland Tow of Cass County.

Mr. Gillespie was arrested at the scene of the crash on 1.) Driving While Intoxicated Charges. He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and later released.

Obituary - Tina Ann Tincher

Tina Ann Tincher, 52, Nevada, MO passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at her home in Nevada. Tina, the oldest of eight children, was born December 17, 1967 in Poteau, OK to James L. and Artie M. (Dale) Cornell. She was united in marriage to Melvin Tincher and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1991.

Tina was raised in the Poteau, Oklahoma area. At the age of 16 she came to Nevada. Tina was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing, and going to yard sales, but most of all loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her companion, James “Rick” Berten, of the home; four children, Melvin Tincher, Jr., Nevada, Janie Tincher, Nevada, Gary Berten (Chelsie), Nevada, Clyde Berten (Paige), Nevada; nine grandchildren, Rachel, Hanalie, Rocky, Sonny, Kirstan, Christan, Avalon, Kolbin, Legacie; mother, Artie Cornell, Nevada; seven siblings, Carolyn Mullen, Nevada, James Cornell, Webb City, MO, Della Cornell, Nevada, Howard Cornell, Nevada, Lela Cornell, Miami, OK, Brenda Berten, Nevada, Robert Cornell, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Melvin, she was preceded in death by her father, James Cornell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Click Cemetery, Nevada.

Subject sought in Henry county

The Henry County Sheriffs Office is currently looking for a subject who fled on foot following a pursuit by the Missouri Highway Patrol. 

The suspect is described as a white male wearing dark clothing and was last seen near SE 100 and SE 200 roads, running toward Clinton. If seen please call 911 and do not approach. 

Accident, grass fire and arrest

In the past few minutes, first responders have been called to a grass fire just east and north of Butler; an accident on the west 52 overpass involving a semi and two cars; and a subject was taken into custody in a driveway just east of I-49 on 52 near the Appleton City exit. 

None of these events appear to be related.

Obituary - Frieda Jean Leer

Frieda Jean Leer, 90, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, MO. Frieda was born September 28, 1930 in Altoona, IA to Erwin and Kathrine (Tompkins) Homrighous.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Memorials are suggested in her memory to Vernon County Cancer Relief c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Obituary - Gerald O. "Jerry" Munro

Gerald O. "Jerry" Munro was born October 10, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Perry and Anna Mae (Hendricks) Munro. 

He departed this life November 29, 2020 in Appleton City, Missouri at 74 years of age.

No public funeral service is planned for Mr. Munro at this time.


Obituary - Bessie David Smelser

Bessie David Smelser of Harrisonville, Missouri was born, October 4, 1925 in Linn Creek, Missouri the daughter of James Mason and Nettie Ann (Mattox) Calton. She departed this life on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park, Kansas surrounded by love and family at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 24 days.
Bessie loved to dance, bake, sew quilts and spend time with her family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 38 years, Gilbert Gordon David; her second husband of 26 years, Adam Smelser; two sons, Gilbert Gordon David Jr. and Gary Lee David; a granddaughter; Lorie Lynne Wimsatt McGee.

Bessie is survived by her companion of 2 years, Charles Uchtman of the home; three daughters, Mary Ellen Prettyman, Harrisonville, Missouri, Rose Marie Drury, Archie, Missouri, Julie Daniels (Jack), Harrisonville, Missouri; 4 granddaughters; 5 grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; other relatives and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 4, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Clearfork Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.
