Public Service Announcement: Lock your vehicles

PLEASE SHARE!

John Floyd had a gun stolen from US. Out of his vehicle that was sitting in our driveway! We live on Birch street in Butler. We always keep our vehicles locked, but John had just got back from the store and was unloading groceries and starting dinner when this happened.

I hesitated to post, because I didn’t want a lot of people knowing, but I feel like the more people that know, and the more the word gets out, that it would be harder for some one to sale or trade.

Considering it had to be a low life scum bag thief, I’m assuming they either want money or drugs for it. The gun is a Glock 43 compact loaded with 6 rounds of self defense bullets with one in the chamber. All black with true glow front sites.

Hornady ammo, 6 round mag. This gun does not have a safety on it. We just want our gun back before some one ends up hurt or it’s traded for drugs or money! It has been reported to the police, along with the serial number for it.

If anyone hears of anything please contact the Butler Police Department at 660-679-6131.

2020 Adrian High School Football Banquet

The Adrian High School Football banquet will be on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7:00 PM in the high school Commons. There will be no food/drink served.

Please try to limit the number of people attending to two per athlete. We will wear masks and social distance as best as we can. Let’s celebrate what a tremendous season these guys had!

Change the Numbers This Holiday Season

While this holiday season may be different from years past, a lot of those smaller, socially distanced gatherings will still most likely include alcoholic beverages.

The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety wants to remind those who plan to celebrate to designate a sober driver or call a ride to avoid driving impaired.

Statewide, law enforcement will be on the lookout for substance-impaired drivers; with targeted enforcement efforts Dec. 13, 2020, to Jan. 1, 2021.

There were 51 people killed and 261 seriously injured in Missouri traffic crashes between Dec. 10, 2019, and Jan. 1, 2020. Twelve of the fatalities and 40 of the serious injuries involved a substance-impaired driver.

That equates to potentially over 300 families whose lives were changed in an instant during what should be the most wonderful time of the year. It’s time to change the numbers.

“We want everyone to enjoy a safe and happy holiday season,” said Jon Nelson, executive chair to the coalition. “Therefore, we are making a special effort to reach motorists with reminders to plan ahead for a safe and sober ride home.”

What’s tragic about these crashes is that they are clearly preventable. Substance-impaired driving is a crime, not an “accident,” and is one of America’s most often committed and deadliest crimes. There are no excuses for driving impaired.

The facts are known - drinking and driving, or drug use - both over-the-counter and illegal, can be a lethal combination. The consequences are fines, jail time or even death. Officers will be out in full force this holiday season. If you choose to drive impaired, you will be arrested.

Decontamination Units lend additional safety at BCMH

Five decontamination units have been purchased for Bates County Memorial Hospital and Family Care Clinics to enhance sanitization capabilities in the hospital and clinics.

From preparation to clean up, the process of treating a patient with COVID-19 or suspected of having COVID-19 is somewhat lengthy. Decontamination units act as a final step to the deep clean process, alleviating some of the burden on our staff during the pandemic - and beyond - while ensuring every surface is sanitized.

The process is also extremely safe for patients and staff: the decontamination units, made by AeroClave, emit a fine mist using Vital Oxide, a non-toxic, non-corrosive disinfectant registered by the EPA. After an activation and drying period, surfaces are disinfected and ready for the next patient. Originally developed as a carpet deodorizer, Vital Oxide eliminates the COVID-19 virus, as well as many other diseases, like Staphylococcus, MERS, SARS, Ebola, and other multi-drug resistant organisms.

“It takes about 23 minutes to sanitize the interior of an ambulance to be ready for the next call,” said Russell Whisenand, EMS Supervisor and Paramedic for BCMH. “With this state-of-the-art equipment, we will lower the risk of infection to our patients and staff.”

The portable AeroClave units are designed for ease of use and quick set up, disinfecting virtually any space in a relatively short amount of time. Purchased because of the pandemic, and currently prioritized

for COVID-19 treatment areas, these decontamination units will remain an enhancement of the hospital’s sanitization procedures for years to come.
