Bates County Sheriff's Office Scam Alert:

Scam Alert:
So far today we have several calls in reference to phone scams. The first call was telling the person that they had won the lottery and wanted money to pay the taxes so they could send the winnings. A legitimate lottery program does not need money up front to pay out winnings.

The second call is in reference to the caller claiming that the person they had called had issues with their social security numbers and if it wasn’t addressed then a warrant would be issued. This is not how we conduct business.

If you receive these calls hang up and ignore them. These are scams
Please check with your elderly family and friends and make sure they know these are scams. They are often the victims and we are not able to recover any money lost.
