Obituary - Nettie Kathryn (Hughes) Johnson

Masks are REQUIRED when entering Hill & Son Funeral Home. Please wear your mask when attending the visitation and service. A limited number are available, please bring your own if possible. If you do not wish to wear a mask you will be asked to remain outside of the building. We appreciate your compliance. The SERVICE for Nettie will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

OFFICIATING at the service will be Pastor Larry Sorrells.

VISITATION will preceded the service from 1:00 - 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

INTERMENT will be at the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, Missouri immediately following the service.

The family requests any MEMORIAL donations be made to Heartland Hospice, and may be left at the funeral home.

Nettie Kathryn (Hughes) Johnson, the daughter of Lee and Phena (Sanders) Hughes was born October 3, 1926 in Deepwater, Missouri. She passed away December 13, 2020 at the age of 94.

Nettie lived in the Montrose, Missouri area most of her life. She was united in marriage to Marvin L. Johnson June 23, 1945 in Reno, Nevada. To this union two daughters were born, Shirley and Patricia.

Nettie was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian-Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She also served as a leader to the youth group.

Nettie loved to cook, sew, crochet, garden, and fish. She had the most beautiful flower garden where she would make beautiful arrangements and share them with family and friends. She was a leader of The Montrose Busy Beavers 4-H club. Here she taught many young girls to cook and sew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Eugene, and Robert; a son-in-law, Shandy Jordan; and one grandson, Matthew Schleicher. She is survived by two daughters: Shirley Jordan of Clinton, Missouri and Patricia and husband Marvin Schleicher of Kansas City, Kansas; three grandchildren: Lisa Hopson and husband Rob, Becky Fick and husband Jeff and Paul Schleicher. The pride and joy of her life were her five great-grandsons: Kyle Schleicher, Jordan Hopson and wife Melanie, Brandon Hopson, Justin Hopson and Logan Hopson.

City of Rich Hill candidate filings for the following offices

CANDIDATE FILING NOTICE

The City of Rich Hill wishes to announce that they will receive candidate filings for the following offices for the April 2, 2019 municipal election:

Alderman North Ward-2 year term
Alderman South Ward-2 year term
Mayor-2 year term

Candidates may file at City Hall beginning December 15, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. and closing date for filing will be January 19, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications for Alderman are in State Statute #79.070 as follows: No person shall be an alderman unless he be at least twenty-one years of age, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant and resident of the city for one year next preceding his election, and a resident of the ward from which he is elected.

Qualifications for Mayor are in State Statute #79.080 as follows: No person shall be Mayor unless he be at least twenty-five years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the city at the time of and for at least one year next preceding his election.

No person shall be elected to any office who shall at the time be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes, or forfeiture or defalcation in office. All officers shall be residents of the city.

2013 Honda Forman 4 wheeler. Dark green in color was stolen from 52 and K hwy in Butler.

Obituary - Joan Louise (Cochran) Antle

Joan Louise Antle, 91, formerly of Sheldon passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Medicalodges in Nevada. Joan was born June 18, 1929 in Dederick, MO to Charles L. and Emma E. (Archer) Cochran. She married Lewis Cass and to this marriage her two children were born. Joan later was married to Edward Lester "Snooks" Antle and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1998.

Joan attended Bronaugh High School. She devoted her life to being housewife and a stay-at-home mom. She later owned and operated the Liquor Store in Sheldon for a number of years. Joan always enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her son, Charlie Cass (Mona) Cape Fair, MO; grandchildren; Crissy Martin, Ashlie Weaver, Dakota Hale, Chad Enochs, Gavin Enochs, and Miranda Enochs; 17 great-grandchildren; her sister Ellen May, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Ed Antle, her brother, Bill Cochran, sister, Mary Evans, and her daughter Linda Hale.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.


Obituary - Ron McKeown

Ronald Lee McKeown of Belton, Missouri was born May 5, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of DeForrest Leroy and Lorena Louisa (Brandt) McKeown. He departed this life on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at his home in Belton, Missouri surrounded by love and family at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 8 days.

On August 9, 1964 Ron was united in marriage to Cheryl Kay Walker in Holden, Missouri.

Ron was employed as an auto estimator for State Farm Insurance in Overland Park, Kansas until his retirement in 2005. He was a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri. He was the happiest when surrounded by his large family. He enjoyed restoring cars, woodworking and landscaping projects and just staying busy. Ron had lived in Peculiar, Missouri for 38 years before moving to Belton in 2016.

Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Buck McKeown and a sister, Marilyn Wilson.

Ron is survived by his wife, Cheryl McKeown of the home; a son, Ron McKeown Jr. (Jerry Jackson), Overland Park, Kansas; three daughters, Kathy Barnes (Chris), Harrisonville, Missouri, Brenda Mackander (Jamie), Peculiar, Missouri, Crissy Bohannon (Shannon), Adrian, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, Samantha, Steve, Emily, Brooks, Tyler, Carter, Sarah Beth, Tanner and Katie; 9 great-grandchildren, Titus, Rory, Tatum, Audrey, Hallie, Rena, Emma, Parker and Trace; a brother, Rick McKeown, Kearney, Missouri; a sister, Patty Raker, Holden, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends.

Candidates can start filing for office on December 15, 2020 at 8:00am. Due to COVID-19 and then City Hall Lobby being closed, candidates wishing to file will be let into City Hall one at a time to file for office. All other candidates will remain outside until they are called into file. 

Candidates will be required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer before they are allowed to enter. I apologize for the unusual requirements for filing, but this is to make sure everyone stays safe while filing. If you need any special accommodations please let me know.

Obituary - Brett Michael Johnson

Brett Michael Johnson, age 25, Prescott, Kansas died as the result of a motor vehicle accident Saturday, December 12, 2020.

Funeral service will be 1 pm Wednesday, December 16 at the Mound City First Baptist Church. Burial in the Pleasanton Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.
