Henry County Health Center confirms 7 new positive cases of COVID-19

The Henry County Health Center has received notification of seven new cases of COVID-19. Six from the town of Clinton and one from Windsor. This brings the total number of positive cases in Henry County to 1,614.

All contact tracing has commenced and all parties that have had close contact are being notified. HCHC continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing, washing your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more, and to remain home if you are sick.

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals to wear a face covering when you are in public, and are unable to social distance, to assist in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Obituary - Roy Paul Fleischer

Roy Paul Fleischer, 84, Butler, Missouri, passed away December 20, 2020. Roy was born January 10, 1936 to Paul and Lillie (Schenker) Fleischer.

Roy attended church at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie City. He also attended school at Zion and later graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1954.

Roy married his sweetheart, Wanda Kline, on May 25, 1958. They celebrated their 62nd anniversary in May. Roy and Wanda settled in Butler, Missouri, where they farmed and raised their family. Family was important to Roy. He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; children, Rick (Robin) Fleischer, Kelly (Fred) Hunt, and Traci (Roger) Tippie; 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, Todd (Mary) Hunt, Caroline and Lydia, Brooke (Kash) Dubray, Hunter, Drake, and Lila, Josh Fleischer, Presley, Keith (Amanda) Fleischer, Riley and Sawyer, Hailey (Brian) Gillis, Cooper, Sadie, and Cade, Brodi (Jose) Mendez, Maysi, Bryan, Isabell, Alex, and Tilli, and Kiley (Luke) Tourtillott, Bowen and Logan; sister-in-law, Genavie Ruehling, brother-in-law, Leo Rapp; many nieces and nephews. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Merle and Lorene Kline; grandson, Bradley Hunt, great-grandson, Eli Fleischer; brother, Everard Fleischer, sister, Irene Rapp, sister-in-law, Kathy Seider, brothers-in-law, Dale Seider and Melvin Ruehling.

The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church in care of Heuser Funeral Home.

Creighton man injured in Cass County accident

On 12/31/20 around 10:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Little Road just south of 315th Street in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Dodge Ram driven by 49 year old Christopher B. Lightfoot of Creighton, Missouri traveled off the roadway and struck a culvert.

Mr. Lightfoot sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of the accident by J's Southland Tow.

Winter Storm Winding Down

The winter storm is starting to wind down with only minor accumulations through this evening. 

Temperatures will drop overnight & any wet/slushy surfaces will refreeze guaranteeing that travel will remain hazardous tonight.

Updated Obituary - Miriam Elizabeth (Fuller) Burhart

Miriam Elizabeth (Fuller) Burhart, 87, Adrian, MO, passed on to her eternal reward Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Foxwood Springs in Raymore, MO. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. 

Please note that the family requests that all in attendance wear personal protective equipment masks at any of Miriam's services. The family requests any contributions, in honor of Miriam's life, be designated to the American Red Cross or the National Kidney Foundation.

Miriam was born December 21, 1933 to Oliver Thomas Fuller Sr. and Mary Eva (Fuller) Fuller. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young teen and was baptized in Mill Creek. She graduated from Roxboro High School in Roxboro, NC in 1952 and worked taking tickets at the Kirby Theatre. On September 18, 1953, Miriam married Richard "Dick" Burhart. They celebrated for 66 years until he passed away in 2019.

As a faithful follower of Jesus, Miriam introduced each of her children to Him. Gifted in serving, she fed/served them and their family members each time they visited, announced or not. She was an unflappable host and felt honored to have guests. She hosted her friends in like manner. Miriam enjoyed teaming up with Dick and others in a bowling league at Nichols Lanes. She fit perfectly into country living on the farm with its animals and flowers. Hollyhocks and Irises; cats and dogs; cattle, chickens, geese, horses and pigs; coyotes, deer, turkeys and wild birds are memorable parts of the Burhart farm history. Miriam retired from Bass Buster Lures after 20 years of employment.

Miriam enjoyed trying unique recipes as well as preparing favorites such as Southern fried chicken. Vacationing at a NC beach with family after a rejuvenating visit with her siblings, gathering perfect sea shells, shopping thrift stores, proudly attending her children's and grandchildren's school and summer events, watching the wild birds feed, and attending to/walking with the dogs were her favorite pastimes.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, and her husband. Survivors include her son, Paul Burhart (Dawn); her daughters: Carol Goodrum (Jim), Karen Moore (Drew), and Diana Adell (Mark); 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Coy Oakley; a sister, Ann Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Fatality Accident In Nevada

On 1/1/21 around 7:53am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County along with Nevada Police Department responded to a one vehicle accident in Marmaduke Park in Nevada.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Pontiac G5 driven by 21 year old Jerod R. Gerster of Nevada, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Mr. Gerster was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and he was transported to Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

A passenger in the vehicle 21 year old Cayden A. Campbell of Nevada, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by TCB Tow of Nevada. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 1st Fatality accident of the year 2021.
