Obituary - Jerod Ross Gerster

With deepest sorrow, we announce that Jerod Gerster, age 21, our beloved son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend passed away on January 1st, 2021.

Those who knew Jerod at all lost a piece of their world that day. It gives us great comfort knowing that Jerod was a believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Although only 21 at the time of his death, Jerod affected many people in his lifetime with his silly grin and goofy personality.

At a very early age Jerod showed his love for animals and the outdoors. He spent countless hours on the farm and in the woods exploring with his brother, Jacob and sisters, Kelsie and Kenzie, and just loving the outdoor life. He loved hunting and fishing and those dear to him have many memories of exploring, hunting and fishing with him. He also loved cooking, grilling, and aspired to be as good a cook/grill master as his uncle Tyler. Most of all Jerod loved to have fun with his friends and did so as much as he could, enjoying life. Jerod’s heart was full of love for all of those close to him, family and friends. He would give his last dollar to whoever was in need. Jerod was a pleaser, always trying to make everyone happy. I think it’s safe to say he made all of those around him very happy. He loved making everyone laugh and he definitely did that.

Jerod will be missed every day by his mother, father, brother, sisters, girlfriend, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other family members and great friends, including his sweet dog Stella.

We know Jerod is now with his Grandma Lucy, Grandpa Dale, Papa Leon, Grandma Keating, Grandma Otter, and all those dear to us that left this earth before him. He is loved here on earth as well as in heaven.

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm, here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clean, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain.”

~General Douglas MacArthur

We love and miss you so much my son. Until we meet again.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 5, from 7:00-8:00p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday, January 6. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a Gerster Memorial fund in c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

About this week's printed Shopper

We've fired up the presses and this week's Shopper is coming to life! Issue #6 is pretty full and will include some local news as promised. Overall, our goal is to turn the Shopper into a beautiful magazine that is interesting and easy to look at while you get information on auctions, items for sale, notices, local business listings and more.

Just a note, issue #5 was delivered to the post office before the deadline but still arrived to patrons late- we're hoping that the Christmas rush was the reason and this week everyone receives their copy in a timely fashion.

We're here for the long run and simply would not be able to do that without your support and encouragement. Thanks again!
