“It is a privilege to be elected to another term as Missouri Secretary of State,” Ashcroft said. “My office excelled through a turbulent, unprecedented time. We never closed during the pandemic. We had staff working every day for the people of Missouri, and I am proud to know we never took a day off from serving the people of this great state.”

Ashcroft’s wife Kathryn was in attendance at the Inauguration, as were several members of his family including his father, former Governor, U.S. Senator and U.S. Attorney General John D. Ashcroft and mother Janet Ashcroft.

The stack of Bibles, held for the oath by Secretary Ashcroft’s oldest son, was noteworthy. Not only did Ashcroft include his own personal Bible and the personal Bible of his father, the group of Bibles also included Bibles for his children – a tradition he carries on from his father.

Obituary - David Owen Marshall

David Owen Marshall, 73, Nevada, MO passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

David Owen Marshall was born to Norma Ruth Rimmer and Paul F. Marshall on 02/03/1947. Both parents passed away several years ago and he was also preceded in death by his last known relative, Aunt Fern McMullin of Kansas City, Missouri.

He moved to Nevada, from El Dorado Springs, in 2011 to retire and put his feet up in his new permanent home. David spent his days relaxing in his favorite recliner and watching his westerns and Court TV. He loved to fish, sit at the park to watch the wildlife, and to be on the "GO GO GO!"

He loved his milkshakes and to sit at the table and chit chat with all the women.

David is best known for his big smile and his brown, puppy dog eyes. He could get anyone to do anything as long as he gave them that sad, puppy look!

He may not have left behind any blood relatives, but he did leave behind a home full of peers and people who cared greatly for him. He will be missed and his home will never be the same without him.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Green Mound Cemetery in Harwood.

*** Those in attendance will be asked to maintain social distancing and are asked to wear face masks to protect themselves and others.
