Update: Drexel man injured in Bates County Rollover near Merwin

On 3/1/21 around 2:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies, Bates County EMS and Amsterdam Fire Department responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on State Line Road just north of Route Y in rural Merwin.

The Missouri State Highway says the accident occurred when the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 44 year old Eric S. Mills of Drexel, Missouri was turning northbound when he traveled off the right side of the roadway striking a fence, and overturning into a field.

Mr. Mills sustained moderate injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by Adrian Tow and Recovery.

Obituary - Doris L. Wittig

Doris L. Wittig, age 92, of Clinton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, February 25th, 2021 at Westwood Living Center in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, Missouri. 

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 Am at the chapel. Services will be livestreamed on the Vansant-Mills Facebook page.

Burial will follow in the Deepwater Cemetery. Deepwater, Missouri. Memorials in Doris' name may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clinton, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church or the Deepwater Cemetery in care of the funeral home. Doris Lavon Wittig was born September 28th, 1928 to Walter and Elsie Young in Finey, Missouri. She attended High School in Deepwater and was saved at the Nazarene Church. Doris married Carl E Wittig on April 17th, 1947, and they resided on a farm southwest of Deepwater for 47 years until Carl’s death in 1993. From this marriage they had three daughters.

Doris worked at Wetzel Clinic in Clinton for 30 years. She was an active member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church since joining in 1948. Doris taught beginners class 45 years and especially enjoyed the Christmas programs, she also taught Girls Auxiliary and lead in singing. Doris was also active in the community with P.T.A., Booster Club, Labor Harvest Picnic, election judge, and Senior Citizens when she moved to Clinton in 1993. Doris was a kind and generous lady and will be sorely missed.

Doris is survived by her three daughters; Terry Munger of Curlew, Washington, Dorene Denney of St. Louis, Missouri and Carlene Neuenschwander of Springfield, Missouri. Three grandchildren; Todd Frederick, David and Brendan Denney. Four great grandchildren; Katelyn Frederick, James and Oliver Denney Dalton Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.


Obituary - Lloyd "Eddie" Clark, Jr.

Lloyd "Eddie" Clark, Jr., age 58, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday, February 27th, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Eddie was a loving husband, father, and papa.

Chad Rogers, 41 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and recently of Drexel, Missouri passed away February 27, 2021. Cremation, with memorial services to be announced at a later time.

Obituary - Dorothy Louise Pettibon

Dorothy Louise Pettibon, 89, of Nevada, MO, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Nathan Richards Healthcare in Nevada. Dorothy was born on February 2, 1932 in Richards, MO to James Reuben and Lucy Mae (Lawson) McConnaughey. She married Elmer Earl “Bill” Pettibon on September 3, 1950 in Deerfield, MO and he preceded her in death on August 25, 2017.

Dorothy was raised in Richards and graduated from Richards High School. She lived in Deerfield all her married life. She worked at Western Insurance for a time and at Bright’s Grill in Ft. Scott, KS. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, quilting, and trips to McDonalds in Nevada. Survivors include a daughter, Penny Montee and her husband Kevin, Arcadia, KS; grandsons, Kyle Montee and his wife Leslie and their daughter Laila, Ft. Scott, and Kolby Montee and his wife Nicole and their children Kase and Krew, Farlington, KS; her sister, Virginia Moberly of Nevada, and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dennis Pettibon; three brothers, J. R. “Buck” McConnaughey, Morse McConnaughey, and Gene McConnaughey; and one sister, Lucille Kash. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO. 

Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the funeral home. Those who wish may donate in Dorothy’s memory to the Deerfield Cemetery in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
