Stabbing in Amsterdam

On 3/30/21, deputies responded to a residence in Amsterdam Missouri in reference to a stabbing that had just occurred. While enroute deputies were advised that the male subject that was reportedly stabbed was taken to Cass Medical Center by another person.
 
Deputies and a Detective arrived on scene while another Detective was re-routed to Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville. While on scene deputies interviewed a female subject who stated that there was a physical domestic disturbance at the residence and that she was the victim of being chocked during the altercation. She stated that during the altercation both parties had fallen on the floor. Deputies observed multiple items on the floor to include several kitchen knives. Deputies did observed a laceration on her hand and she stated she did not know how she received that injury. Deputies processed the residence which was RV type of trailer.
 
While the scene was being processed a second Detective interviewed the male subject at the hospital. The male subject stated that there was a disturbance at the residence and he was attempting to leave when the female became physical and stabbed him in the left chest area. The male subject stated that he never touched the female and did not know how she would have received the injury to her hand. Deputies observed and photographed a small cut on the male subjects left chest. The cut did not need any major medical treatment and the male was released from the hospital.
 
There was no independent witnesses to the incident as they were the only two present at the time. The case will be presented to the Bates County Prosecutor to determine if and who charges would be filed against.

Severe Weather Outlook Tonight and Tomorrow

Storms become possible overnight into early Wednesday AM (Midnight to 6AM). An additional round of storms is expected to develop after noon on Wednesday. Both tonight and Wednesday PM, a few of the storms may be strong to severe with hail and strong winds as the main threat.

Traffic stop in Rich Hill

On 3/29/2021 a deputy was patrolling in the City of Rich Hill. The deputy initiated a traffic stop at 6th and Park Street. During the traffic stop the deputy observed an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. 

The deputy obtained consent to search the vehicle and recovered several its of paraphernalia and a digital scale that had a white crystalline substance on it. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

The items were seized and the subject was released from the scene pending laboratory results on the residue on the scales.


Butler man arrested after fleeing

On 4/4/2021 at approximately 8:50pm, Deputies were attempting to locate a male subject that was involved in a Burglary that had occurred earlier that day. The deputies was given the first name of Jared for the suspect. 

A deputy observed a male subject in Butler on a bicycle that he knew had a name of Jared. The Deputy attempted to make contact with that subject at the intersection of of Dakota Street and Main Street. The subject failed to stop for the Deputy on the Bike. 

The subject fled across the square with the deputy behind him with his lights and siren going. The male subject then rode his bicycle to Casey's on Ft. Scott Street.

The subject was taken into custody at Casey's for fleeing from the deputy. While attempting to take him into custody the deputy had to deploy a taser. While deputies attempted to put him into the patrol vehicle, he repeatedly kicked at the deputies and even struck one during the incident.

The male was identified as Jared M Lindsay of Butler Missouri. While transporting Lindsey to the Sheriff's Office he attempted several times to break out the back window of the patrol car by striking his head against the window. Once at the Jail, Lindsey continued to be combative and had to be restrained until he would calm down.

Mr. Lindsey was charged with 2nd and 3rd degree assault and is currently being held on $20,000 cash or surety bond.

Mr. Lindsey was eliminated as a suspect in the burglary from the early call for serviced and had he not fled from the officer would have been released from the initial contact with the deputy.


Happy Retirement Steve!

At the March meeting of the NRMC Board of Directors CEO Steve Branstetter announced that he would be retiring at the end of March in 2022. After some 40 years in healthcare Steve said that he wants to spend more time with his family and in pursuing other interests.

He said the decision was a difficult one "because I'm truly invested in our organization and all of you who make us what we are. It's been my ultimate privilege to support our leaders, doctors and staff here at NRMC.

" In his remaining year on the job Steve said that he wants to keep on meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, while at the same time addressing the new challenges and opportunities that present themselves each and every day.
