FLASHBACK: Country carwash
In 1948, an easy way to wash your pride and joy was to take the car to the water, not water to the car. Here, Stanley Walley parked in the shallows of Miami Creek near Amsterdam to get the job done.
Miami FFA Qualifies for State
This year there was a qualifier to see which teams would go to the Central district CDE’s held in Warrensburg, MO. In the Archie CDE Area 7 qualifier, Miami had 3 teams. The equine evaluation team, dairy judging team, and the poultry judging team, did very well. Area 7 has 24 schools participating with the Central District including over 65 teams working to advance to State.
The horse and poultry teams advanced to the district CDE’s that was held on March 29, 2021 in Warrensburg, MO. State usually allows the top 10 teams to advance, but this year they limited it to the top 5 teams. The horse team finished State qualifier 7th overall, which would have originally had them traveling to Columbia, MO, but with the new restrictions the team did not advance. Hannah Filtingerbeger was placed 13th overall in the gold division and Abby Talley was placed 19th in the silver division and other team members were Eli Johnson and Emily Roth.
The poultry team finished 4th overall, qualifying for state held at Missouri University in Columbia, MO. CJ McWilliam placed 5th overall in the gold division and Peyton Popplewell placed 19th in the silver division and other team members were Kenny Downs and Matt Yanonis. This concludes CDE judging for the Miami FFA chapter for the year. All teams did exceptionally well and good luck to them next year!

Authorities search for suspect after vehicle pursuit in Nevada
Authorities are searching for a Nevada resident after warrants were issued Wednesday for a suspect involved in a stolen vehicle. Officials say Joshua Hallam, 38 of Nevada is wanted for resisting arrest and driving while revoked.
Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a two-tone Chevy Suburban that had been reported stolen out of Nevada March 1, 2021. “They spotted the vehicle leaving a gas station in Nevada and when they attempted to stop it, it ran from deputies,” said Mosher.
According to the press release, deputies pursued the vehicle into the county south east of Nevada. Additional units responded to assist and the chase continued down Veterans road southeast of Nevada until it came to a dead-end.
The vehicle then continued to drive through a field and into the woods where it hit a tree and caught on fire. Hallam then fled on foot from deputies, but due to the vehicle fire, deputies stayed behind.
Authorities are now searching for Hallam and ask that anyone with information regarding his whereabouts contact the Sheriff’s Office at 417-667-6042
3/4 pound of crystal meth seized, two arrested during raid in Nevada
Investigators with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office seized what is believed to be crystal meth as the result of an investigation that led to a raid on a Nevada home by the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team early Wednesday morning.
According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, a search warrant was executed at a home on W Hickory St in Nevada, Mo as part of an investigation into drugs being supplied to the Vernon County area.
As a result of the raid, two people have been charged and approximately ¾ pounds of suspected methamphetamines were seized. Mosher said he believes these drugs would have been on the streets of Vernon County in a very short time if they had not intercepted them.

“Our team did an excellent job throughout this investigation and our overall mission of keeping drugs out of our county. The suspects have been identified as 41-year-old Bobbie Bradley of Kansas City and 34- year-old Andrew Daniels of Nevada.
Bradley has been charged with Trafficking Drugs and is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $100,000 cash only bond and Daniels has been charged with Possession Of a Controlled Substance and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
