Obituary - Vivian Lucile Bright

Vivian Lucile Bright, age 93, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away on Thursday April 8, 2021. She was born in La Cygne, Kansas on April 4, 1928 the daughter of Raymond and Leona Dodge Vail. 

She was united in marriage to William Bright on January 29, 1947. Together they raised their family and worked hard raising crops and cattle. He preceded her in death on January 17, 2020.

She was also preceded in death by four infant siblings, Virgil, Roy, Harry and Carol, a grandchild and one great grandchild. Vivian is survived by four sons, Roy Bright, Gene Bright, Charles Bright and Dale Bright, four daughters, Janet O'Brien, Mary Casey, Pam Carroll and Jeannie Kerr, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Visitation will be from 10 am to service time. Burial will be in the Woodfin Cemetery.

Vivian will lie in state Tuesday at the Schneider Pleasanton Chapel. Contributions are suggested to Integrity Hospice or Woodfin Cemetery, c/o Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Boating accident in Henry County

On April 9th around 10:13 am the Tightwad Fire responded to Medical at the Bucksaw Marina in Henry County which involved a 2 boats accident. 

4 people were involved in the accident and 2 were transported with injuries. Thank to all volunteers, and additional EMS from GVMH, as well as Henry County Sherriff's Office and Highway Patrol for assisting.

Three arrested after narcotics search warrant in Nevada

On April 8, 2021, Nevada Police executed search warrants in the 700 block of E. Lee Street and the 400 block of S. Lynn Street in response to reports of illegal drug activity at those locations.

These residences had been under investigation by police after receiving citizen complaints regarding ongoing drug activity occurring at these locations.

During the searches, detectives located and seized suspected controlled substances including methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription drugs, and drug paraphernalia. The evidence seized will be sent to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab for further analysis.

Three subjects were taken in custody by Nevada Police between both locations and transported to the Vernon County Jail for holding. Additional charges are being sought against other persons identified during the execution of these search warrants.

The subjects taken into custody have been identified as follows:
Brenda L. Johnson, age 58 of Nevada
Amanda A. Lamae, age 34 of Nevada
Derrek S. Bennett, age 35 of Nevada

On April 9, 2021, the following charges were filed against Brenda L. Johnson through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Two (2) Counts - Possession of Controlled Substance - Class D Felony. Johnson is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

On April 9, 2021, the following charges were filed against Amanda A. Lamae through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Possession of Controlled Substance - Class D Felony
Possession of Marijuana Prior Drug Offense - Class A Misdemeanor
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Prior Drug Offense - Class A Misdemeanor. Lamae is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 cash-only bond.

On April 9, 2021, the following charges were filed against Derrek S. Bennett through the Vernon County Associate Court:
Possession of Controlled Substance - Class D Felony. Bennett is being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Updated Obituary - Dennis Evan Sanders

Dennis Evan Sanders, 41, of Belton, MO, met his untimely death on the morning of Tuesday, April 6th 2021 after a valiant three week long battle with COVID-19 and related complications.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A funeral services will be held for Dennis immediately following at 6:00 p.m.

Dennis was born on Monday, February 4th, 1980, in Springfield, MO. Raised by Linda and Steve Spence in Belton, MO; he was the oldest and most mischievous of three ornery boys.

Dennis graduated from Belton High in 1998, where he developed passions for football, martial arts, music, racing, and discovered his talents for electrical vocation. Also, while in high school, Dennis met former wife Tina Lehnherr. The two started their family and were married on September 18th 1999. Together they had three beautiful girls, Danielle, Candice and Linsey Sanders.

Dennis became an electrical apprentice through the Associated Builders and Contractors Electricians School, and eventually received his Master Electrician License, and formed Genesis 1 Electric, Inc.

Outside of work Dennis pursued his other passions, concentrating on building/racing cars, and martial arts - eventually earning a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and coaching classes at Ground Zero BJJ and Self Defense Gym.

Dennis was remarried to Jodi Sanders on January 13th 2020. Their time together was brief, but full of adventure.

Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, and cousins Jimmy Splain, and Mike Hamilton. Dennis is survived by his wife Jodi Sanders, daughters Danielle, Candice, and Linsey Sanders, stepchildren Ty Reichard, and Jayden and Emma Upton, former wife Tina Lehnherr, parents Linda and Steve Spence, brothers Kenny and Derek Spence, and half-sister Angela Allison.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Special Olympics Missouri, 305 Special Olympics Dr., Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.

Updated Obituary - Robert “Bob” A. Ford

Robert “Bob” A. Ford, 69, Harrisonville, MO, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at The Worship Center in Harrisonville with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to The Worship Center.

Bob was born June 11, 1951 in Harrisonville, MO, a son of Robert Crawford and Jewel Doris (Good) Ford. Bob lived in South Kansas City and was a 1969 graduate of Ruskin High School in Kansas City, MO. He was united in marriage to Virginia “Ginny” Louise Knight on March 19, 1970 in Kansas City. They lived in Kansas City before moving to Harrisonville in 1984.

Bob was a graduate of the Kansas City Fire Academy, and worked for the Grandview, MO Fire Department for 29 years, serving as Captain for 15 years, before his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Local #42, International Association of Fire Fighters.

Bob loved stock car racing and in 1985 was the Late Model, Rookie of The Year, at both the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS, and the I-70 Speedway in Odessa, MO.

He was a member of The Worship Center in Harrisonville.

Bob is survived by his wife, Ginny, of the home; one son, Jason Ford (Christi), Archie, MO; one daughter, Emily Thieverge (Richie), Lee’s Summit, MO; 3 grandchildren, Robbie, Allie and Brody and many other relatives and friends.



One injured in Cass County Crash

On April 8th around 4:30pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident on Route D at 196th Street in Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Cadillac CT6 driven by 20 year old Jack E. Lasley of Greenwood, Missouri had a drug related medical emergency and traveled off the roadway striking a utility pole.

Mr. Lasley sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Belton Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed by J's Southland Tow.
