Obituary - Earnest Allen "Ernie" Rea

Earnest Allen "Ernie" Rea age 92 of Garden City, Missouri departed this life Monday, April 12, 2021 at Holden Manor Care Center, Holden, Missouri.

Ernie is survived by his son, Gary A. Rea and his wife Carol of Garden City, Missouri; a daughter, Vickie Mellott and her husband Richard of Peabody, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

The Family will receive friends Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m at the funeral home.

BCMH: Heart saver CPR/AED Class

An American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED class will be offered at Bates County Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Obituary - Jacqueline J. Gatton

Jacqueline J. Gatton, age 81, of Belton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation will resume on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Graveside committal will be held following services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas.

Jackie was born in Rock Island, Illinois on May 27, 1939 to Leonard “Red” K. Bealer and Zana L. (Cook) Bealer. She was one of nine children growing up. After graduating high school Jackie was joined in marriage with her late husband Howard on November 30, 1957. Together they were blessed with five daughters and shared over fifty-six happy years together. Jackie was a woman of Christian faith and devoted her life to being a mother, not only to her own children but to others as well. In life she loved crocheting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Jackie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard J. Gatton; parents, Leonard and Zana Bealer; three brothers, Pat, Tom and Jack Bealer; and son in law, Joseph Short.

She leaves behind her five loving daughters, Teresa Gatton, Linda Meier (Kyle), Joyce Short, June Babb (Robert), and Charlotte Long (Coby); three brothers, Bill Bealer, Kenny Bealer (Anne), and Dick Bealer; two sisters, Sharon Hentzen (Tom) and Sally Strom (Randy); eleven grandchildren, Somer Dokolas (Pete), Jordan Umphress (Adriane), Casey Meier, Bethany Wyles (Andrew), Spencer Babb, Blake Babb, Caroline Cairns (David), Candace Dealy, Roxanne Evans, Carly Long, and Jakoby Long; and fifteen great grandchildren with one on the way.

Hudson R-IX Elementary kindergarten screening


Hudson R-IX Elementary will hold their annual kindergarten screening on Monday, May 17th. 

Please call (660) 476-5467 to set up an appointment, if you live in the Hudson R-IX School District, your child will be attending kindergarten in the fall and they do not currently attend Hudson preschool. 

You will need your child’s social security card, birth certificate, and current immunization record. If you call and the school office is closed, please leave a message and we will get back to you.

New Chapter in the Belton Police Department

Today marks the beginning of a new era at the Belton Police Department. With Chief Person’s term expiring today, Scott Lyons was officially sworn in as the new Chief of the Belton Police Department during a ceremony at headquarters.

Obituary - Oliver Eugene Long

Oliver E. Long, 92, of Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Crown Care in Harrisonville. 

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville.
