Cass County man arrested after wrecking expensive car near Butler City Lake

On June 17th around 11:49 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a one vehicle accident at Butler City Lake Road.

When the Highway Patrol arrived on scene they found a yellow Ferrari Sports Car in the ditch at the entrance to city lake. 

The driver of the vehicle who was identified as 55 year old Patrick E. O'Reilly of Loch Lloyd, Missouri was arrested for 1.) Felony Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Failure to comply with ignition interlock device requirements 3.) Failure to drive on the right half of the roadway.

Mr. O'Reilly was booked into the Bates County Jail and was released a short time afterwards.

Obituary - Terri Jones

Terri E. Jones, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021 at her home in Clinton, Missouri. Visitation for Terri will be on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Englewood Cemetery in Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Donor's Favorite Charity for Youth and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Terri E. Jones was born on January 5th, 1964 to Richard and Beverly (Gamber) Farrell in Kansas City, Missouri.

Terri was a Chiefs fanatic she loved watching their games. Terri enjoyed the outdoors and fishing at Roaring River. She loved singing, dancing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Terri was an active member in the community; assisting with the Boy Scout Troup 430 and with the “Clinton Cool Cats” 4-H Club.

Terri is preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Farrell, and her grandparents; Frank and Mildred Gamber.

She is survived by her husband Larry Jones of the home, son Ryan Matthew Jones and fiancĂ©, Chelsey McGrath of Lebenon, Missouri, 2 daughters; Jamie Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, Stacie Marek and fiancĂ©, Eric Silva of Windsor, Missouri, her father Richard D. Farrell and step mother Bridget Farrell of New Jersey, 4 siblings; Richard D. Farrell of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Edward Farrell of New Jersey, Kelli Marie Hite of California, and Chloe Bradley of Arkansas, 7 grandchildren; Mikaya Wolley, Derek Wolley, Camarae Willard, Andre Willard, Skyler Wilson, Spencer Wilson, and Alexandria Silva, one great grandchild; Amoura Taylor (Mikaya’s daughter), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.


An expensive fender bender...



We apologize for the grainy photo but this isn’t something you see in our area much, if at all. An accident near the Butler city lake earlier today appears to have involved a Ferrari F12tds, a car worth north of $500,000. While details about the accident are yet to be released we can be certain that the owner, which appears to be a dealer, probably isn’t going to be happy about it.

J.M. James Christensen is a registered sex offender in Johnson County, MO. On today's date during a compliance check, it was discovered Christensen is not residing at the address he listed on his registration.

Runaway Juvenile in Cass County

RUNAWAY: Dorico Hilliard ran away from his home in Raymore in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 17.

Hilliard is 16 years old with brown eyes. He's 5'7" and 130 lbs.

We believe Hilliard is still around the Raymore/Peculiar area. If you have seen him or have any information on his location, please contact the Raymore Police Department immediately at 816-331-0530.

Obituary - Helen Reaves Guthrie

Helen Reaves Guthrie, 96, Harrisonville, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Westchester Village in Lenexa, Kansas. A private family service will be held followed by interment at Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, Missouri. Family and friends are encouraged to sign the guest book and leave their thoughts and condolences to the family on the Atkinson Funeral Home website. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Cass Regional Medical Center, ATT: Memorial Gardens, 2800 Rock Haven Road, Harrisonville, MO 64701 or Ascend Hospice, 4550 W. 109th St, Overland Park, KS 66207.

Helen was born on October 5, 1924 in Batesville, Arkansas, to the parents of Lucien and Eudola (Morris) Reaves. She grew up in Moorefield on the family farm and attended Blue Creek school. During her high school years, she attended Sulfur Rock High School where she played on the basketball team. She excelled in academics and earned a Life Scholarship to attend Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. While attending Business College, she met Stanley Ray Guthrie. They were married on October 14, 1944. While her husband was overseas, Helen worked for the Rider Motor Company as the bookkeeper/steno in Batesville, AR. When the war ended, she and Stan made their home in Batesville where their two children, Gregory Elias and Glenda Beth, were born.

In 1960, Helen and Stan moved the family to Memphis, TN where Stan worked as an Air Traffic Controller. Helen maintained the home as a full-time wife, mother, and homemaker. Helen loved animals and had a passion for music. She learned to play the piano at an early age. She was the church pianist for many years and participated in WMU mission activities. She was a good cook, decorator, always exhibited grace and good etiquette, and loved to do her patriotic duty by working in the election polls of her community. In 2003, Helen and Stan moved to Harrisonville, MO where they enjoyed community dances in Garden City, Adrian, and Harrisonville.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her husband. She is survived by one son, Greg Guthrie (Renee) of Lenexa, KS; one daughter, Glenda Beth Guthrie of Harrisonville, MO; 3 grandchildren: Lauren Lamoreux (Dustin), Jonathan Guthrie (Tara), Nathan Guthrie, D.C.; and 3 great-grandchildren: Emery and Barrett Lamoreux, and Grace Guthrie.


One vehicle accident west of Butler

The Butler Fire Department along with Bates County EMS, Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers are on scene of a one vehicle accident at Missouri 52 West and City Lake Road west of Butler at this time.

Please use caution if you must travel in this area and always move over for emergency vehicles.

One arrested in Butler

On June 16th around 5:42 p.m. the Butler Police Department arrested 34 year old Dennis M. Coon of Butler.

Mr. Coon was arrested for 1.) Unlawful Possession of a firearm 2.) Violation of a Ex-Parte with regards to abuse.

Dennis M. Coon was booked into the Bates County Jail and he is currently listed as bondable.
