KC Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Metro-area Armed Robberies

Kansas City, MO - A Kansas City, Mo., man was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday for the armed robberies of eight metropolitan-area businesses during the summer of 2017.

Calvin C. Wallace, III, 30, was sentenced by U.S. Chief District Judge Beth Phillips to 20 years in federal prison without parole.

On Nov. 9, 2020, Wallace pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, seven counts of robbery, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.

Wallace admitted that he engaged in a conspiracy to commit robberies at eight Kansas City metropolitan area businesses from June 29 to Aug. 3, 2017.

On August 3, 2017, following an armed robbery in Harrisonville, Cass County Deputies pursued Wallace and two other individuals in a vehicle through Peculiar and into Belton, Mo. The pursuit ended in Belton near I-49 and 163rd Street. Following a brief foot pursuit all three subjects were was taken into custody.

“Career criminals like this is exactly why I created our Criminal Apprehension Unit. Dangerous and persistent offenders require additional resources and attention from law enforcement as they are particular dangerous to our communities,” said Sheriff Jeff Weber


Obituary - John Anderson Young

John Young, age 70, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday June 28, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Clinton.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM prior to service. Burial will follow in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

Obituary - Dewayne “Bud” Patrick Mott

Dewayne “Bud” Patrick Mott, age 48, of Belton, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in Kansas City, Missouri.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Immediately following will be a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Belton Cemetery in Belton, Missouri.

Bud was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 20, 1972 to Wayne E. Mott and Debra D. (Richardson). In the fall of 1999, he was joined in marriage with his wife Gwen on October 2nd. In life Bud was a family man, he loved watching his kids in all their activities. He was a Dance Dad and was his kids’ biggest fan. Bud was a DIY man, loved watching sports, barbequing with his family and was a huge Chiefs fan.

Bud was preceded in death by his mother, Debra D. Grant; and maternal grandmother, Evelyn Richardson.

He leaves behind his loving wife of over twenty-one years, Gwen Mott; sons, Stephen Mott (Becca) and Jeffery Mott; daughter, Halie Mott (Jalen); His Father Wayne Mott; one brother Michael (Megan) Mott; two grandchildren, Jordyn and Lucas Mott; nephew Christopher Mott; father and mother in-law Larry and Janice Douty; 2 brother in-laws Chad Douty and Stephen (Emily) Douty and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and even more friends.

It's about time...

Finally we get some much needed precip for crops, grass and gardens around the area. The National Weather Service says we're to expect more rain, specifically a 30-40% chance each day through the middle of next week with daytime highs hanging in the mid 80's to around 90.

Obituary - Allen C. Henley

Allen Conrad Henley, 61, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born February 25, 1960, in Clinton, Missouri, the son of Conrad H. and Edith M. (Vansandt) Henley. He passed from this life, Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at his home.

Allen was a 1978 Lee’s Summit High School graduate. He attended Longview Community College and was a graduate of the University of Missouri at Columbia College of Engineering.

Allen was an Agricultural Engineer. Although self-employed for the last fifteen years, he had worked for Case IH for 15 years and at Allis Chalmers. He enjoyed working the family farm, welding, and metal fabrication. He loved animals, especially, the family dog, Cookie, who was a stray he befriended and his cat, Rocky.

Allen is survived by his parents, Connie and Edith Henley of Pleasant Hill; one brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Marymae Henley and their sons Ethan and Logan, of West Orange, New Jersey; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Pettis County Inmate still at large

Pettis County Inmate Jason M Laird, DOB: 03-15-77, last seen outer camp ground of the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia at 1600 on 6/22/2021. 

Mr. Laird was an inmate working the grounds. Laird is a 44 years old, white male, 5'03" tall, 160 pounds with blue eyes. Possibly armed.
