Obituary - LaVerne Monroe

LaVerne Monroe, 84, Nevada, MO passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at her home in Nevada. LaVerne was born May 1, 1937 in Kansas City, MO to Floyd R. and Iva L. (Mullins) Ellison.

LaVerne worked as a nurse at Nevada Habilitation Center for 20 years. She was a lifetime member of the Nevada Elks and Nevada Eagles Lodges, and was also a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Survivors include five children, Joanna Patton (Glen) Wichita, KS, Franklin Archer, Jr., Sheldon, MO, Anita Norris (Dusty), Edgerton, MO, Andy Archer (Denna), Nevada, MO, and Melissa Burkett (Arthur), Clever, MO; one brother, Floyd Ellison, Warsaw, MO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Monroe; and one sister Clete Koger.

There are no services planned, a private Committal will be held in the Sheldon Cemetery at a later date.

Butler Area Chamber of Commerce Kids Car Show

The past several years our agency has sponsored the Butler Area Chamber of Commerce Kids Car Show. Each year we provide a unique trophy to all participants. I have to say, this is one of my favorite events! I absolutely love designing a different, fun trophy each year for the kids to "collect". Here is a peek at this year's- it may even be extra close to my heart with the "Jeep"

Make sure to plan on bringing your kiddos and their little vehicles to the show/parade on Saturday, July 17th at 4PM! It really is the cutest thing to watch... a bunch of "littles" driving their mini cars and jeeps in a little "parade".

Obituary - Dianne Dahmer Morris

Dianne Dahmer Morris passed away peacefully at Medicalodges in Nevada, MO on Thursday morning July 1, 2021. She was born October 23, 1937 in Nevada, MO to Maurice Lee and Eula Grace (Skinner) Dahmer. She was united in marriage to Perry J Morris on August 29, 1957 in Springfield, MO.

Dianne graduated from Nevada High School in 1955 and attended what was then known as Southwest Missouri State College, receiving a Bachelors’ degree in Education. Later she earned a Masters in School Supervision and Administration from Central Missouri State University and a Certificate as a Reading Specialist from University of Missouri Kansas City. She and Perry met at Southwest Missouri State, were married in Springfield, then moved to Iowa City, Iowa in order for Perry to finish his education. In 1962 they moved to the Kansas City area, eventually making their home in Raytown, MO where they made a fulfilling life for over 50 years. She taught for 32 years in the Raytown school district, then retired from teaching in 1992, and began a career at Hall’s in Kansas City, retiring in 2003. They were very active in the Kansas City Arts scene, and she was a volunteer for several years with Breaktime, a program to provide daytime activities for Alzheimer’s patients. She also loved to knit, and each winter she provided thousands of stocking caps to a local charity. She and Perry enjoyed travel and had many fond memories of their times visiting places such as New York City, London, Greece, and Istanbul just to name a few. She was also an active member of the Raytown Teacher’s Organization, PEO Sisterhood, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Dianne is survived by her husband Perry, of Nevada MO; three brothers: Maurice Lee Dahmer, Jr (Bub) of Nevada, Chuck Dahmer and his wife Barbara of Nevada, and Pat Dahmer and his wife Ruth of Littleton, CO; two sisters: Sue Crawford of Blue Springs, MO, and Kay Wells of Grove, OK; sister-in-law Alice Curtis of Utah; and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother Lanny Lee, and sister-in-law Marinda (Tin) Dahmer.

Funeral services are planned for Monday, July 5th at 11:00 AM at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO, with burial to follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM that morning prior to the service at the funeral home.

Those who wish may contribute to the M.L. and Grace Dahmer Scholarship fund for Nevada High School graduates in care of the funeral home.

Missing female found in Linn County Kansas

On July 02, 2021, at 7:43am the Linn County Sheriff’s Office was contacted regarding a motorcycle found on the Beach at Sugar Valley Lakes. Deputies responded to the area and began to investigate the motorcycle and items found about the area.

 
The property belonged to a Linn County resident. Many contacts were made, and information led Deputies to believe the owner of the motorcycle could be endangered or missing. The person sought was a 28-year-old female. Deputies began searching, at the scene Deputies also found the female’s purse and cellular phone.

 
Due to the location a foot search ensued and since the scene was so close to the water Kansas Fish and Game officials were called to assist in the search of the water, a citizen of Linn County was contacted to assist by flying the area with a drone to attempt to locate the female.

 
At 10:03am the female was located in Sugar Valley Lakes in good general health.

Welcome to the family!

Clinton Middle School is excited to welcome Sydney Snyder to their school family! Sydney will be teaching girls' physical education, as well as an assistant CMS girls' basketball and track coach. She will also be helping coach softball at CHS.

Ms. Snyder is originally from Kirksville, MO. She began her post-secondary education at John Wood Community College in Illinois, and then attended Truman State University in Kirksville, where she received a Bachelor's in Exercise Science and Master's in Education.

Sydney comes from a big family, as she is the oldest of 7 siblings from a blended family. She grew up playing a variety of sports, but really stuck with softball and decided to play college softball for two years at John Wood Community College. In her free time, Sydney enjoys anything outdoors, golfing, playing slow-pitch softball, and going for walks with her dog Bailey.

"I am excited to work in the Clinton School District because it will be the beginning of a new chapter in my life! I have never lived more than an hour away from home, so I think this is a great opportunity for growth and to challenge myself. I can't wait to get started!"
