Fatal rollover crash in Cass County

On June 6th around 5:18 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident at E. 171st just east of Shimel Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Chevrolet driven by 18 year old Austin M. Duffey of Holden, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. After impact the vehicle overturned coming to rest in a creek.

Mr. Duffey sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to CenterPoint Medical Center in Independence for treatment. A passenger in the vehicle 25 year old Tristan C. Ervin of Warrensburg, Missouri was pronounced dead at the scene of this accident. 

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Tow. This is Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's 38th Fatality of the year 2021.

Stolen ATV in Nevada

On Monday June 5th the Nevada Police Department took a report of a stolen blue in color Yamaha ATV from the 300 block of West Allison Street.

Traffic Alert rollover accident on US 69 Highway

The Kansas State Highway Patrol in on scene of a rollover accident on northbound US 69 Highway at mile marker 99 just north of the 52 Highway Exit in rural Linn County.

Obituary - Donald James “Jim” Brown

Donald James “Jim” Brown, 92, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, July 06, 2021 at his home in Nevada following an illness of several months. Jim was born October 1, 1928 in Wichita, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Jeff Adams and Pastor Jeff Swarts officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to Heritage Baptist Church in Nevada c/o Ferry Funeral Home.


Adrian Blackhawk Wrestling News June 6th

Hello, my name is Brandon Ott and I am the new Head wrestling coach at Adrian high school and middle school.

I have been an assistant coach for the last 6 years at the high school and collegiate levels, coaching multiple state qualifiers and state medalists.

Prior to that I competed collegiately at Ottawa University for two years and was a four year varsity letter winner at Ottawa High School.

I am looking forward to getting on the mat and beginning our journey for more state medalist.

Obituary - Garen Ray Williams

Garen Ray Williams, 73, of Nevada, MO passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Garen was born on January 15, 1948 in Ft. Scott, KS.

Committal services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at the National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to St. Lukes Hospital Cardiovascular ICU c/o Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.


Two arrested after pursuit in Harrisonville

On July 3rd, 2021, at approximately 4:17 pm, Harrisonville Police Officer attempted to stop a 2021 white Chevrolet truck for a license plate violation in the area of northbound Interstate 49 and Mechanic Street. The truck failed to stop for the Officer and turned onto Mechanic Street traveling east. 

The truck reached Commercial Street, turning traveling south. While traveling south on Commercial Street at approximately 52 mph, the truck struck another vehicle pulling out of the Harrisonville Marketplace Shopping Center.

The truck continued traveling south before driving thru the parking lot of a business located at 1001 S. Commercial Street, before traveling onto Oakland where the truck became disabled. The female driver and male passenger exited the truck and attempted to flee the scene. Both were taken into custody.

On July 4th, 2021 the Cass County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Kayla Simmons, 30 years old of Holton, KS. with one count of Felony Resisting Arrest and one count of Felony Tampering with a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree. Associate Circuit Judge Lett affixed a No Bond to the warrant for the charges against Kayla. Prosecutors charged Marty Warford Jr., 35 years old of Shawano, WI with one count of Misdemeanor Resisting Arrest. Judge Lett affixed a $1,500.00 cash only bond to the warrant for the charge against Marty.
 
The occupants of the vehicle struck by Kayla suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.
