Obituary - Mike Keith Robertson

Mike Robertson, age 69 of Mound City, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at his home. Mike was born the son of Onnie Fay and Maxine (Hendrix) Robertson, February 18, 1952 at Clarksville, Arkansas. He married Vicky Shepherd on October 5, 1970 in Independence, Missouri, spending fifty plus years together before his passing. 

Mike worked as a truck driver and mechanic over the years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing his guitar, working on antique cars and could fix just about anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Sheri Tharp and Kimberly Rossi. 

Mike is survived by his wife of fifty years, Vicky, three daughters, Cathy Kinney (Brett), Heather Purvis, Angela Stark (Mark), two sisters, Karen Douglas and Debra Courtemanche, nine grandchildren, Ashley, Falicia, Josh, Justin, Alex, Amanda, Morgan, Emily, Taylor, and five great grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Obituary - Jim Brown

Donald James “Jim” Brown, 92, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, July 06, 2021 at his home in Nevada following an illness of several months. Jim was born October 1, 1928 in Wichita, KS to Raymond A. and Dora Bell (Rackley) Brown. He was united in marriage to Beth Woodruff on August 24, 1946 in Ft. Scott, KS and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2017.

Jim was raised in Vernon County. He worked for the railroad for a number of years, and later worked for Joseph Pohl Construction for over 25 years until his retirement. Jim was member of the Heritage Baptist Church. His passion in life was leading people to Jesus and serving the Lord the best way he could.

Survivors include one son, Don Brown, Jr., Nevada; one daughter, Betty Thorpe (Charles), Nevada; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; one sister, and Joan Engle, Liberal, MO; one brother, Frank Schooley, Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Beth, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chrales Brown; and two sisters, Patricia Perriman, and Mary Dagley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Jeff Adams and Pastor Jeff Swart officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to Heritage Baptist Church in Nevada c/o Ferry Funeral Home.


Update: Charges filed on Belton man

Update: Today, Larry D. Register Jr. was arraigned in Cass County Circuit Court on charges of 1st Degree Burglary and 2nd Degree Attempted Child Molestation.

Judge Stacey Lett kept Register in custody on no bond. Additionally, Register was arraigned on charges stemming from a 2019 burglary which had just recently been submitted by our department once DNA results came back.

Judge Lett arraigned Register on charges of 1st Degree Burglary, Stealing of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon in that case. Again, Judge Lett set Register's bond on the new charges at no bond.

Obituary - Robert W. Spitler

Robert W. Spitler, 64, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. No services are scheduled at this time.

Robert was born November 18, 1956 in Holden, MO, a son of Daniel Ray and Sarah Rose (Cornelius) Spitler. He grew up in East Lynne, MO, was a lifelong Cass County, MO resident, and was a 1975 graduate of Harrisonville, MO High School. Robert was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Tomes, June 30, 1984 in Grain Valley, MO. He was a U. S. Marine Veteran, and had worked as a framer for Schult Industries in Blue Springs, MO.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Spitler, Pleasant Hill, MO; a son, John Henry Spitler, Knob Noster, MO; two brothers: Kenny Spitler and Donald Spitler, both of Pleasant Hill; a grandson, Kevin Whitman; and a step-grandson, Logan.

Mr. Hopkins grew up in Ridgeland, MS and Gallatin, MO, and received a Speech & Theatre Education degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

In his free time, Gavin enjoys anime and Star Wars movies.

"I student taught in Maryville and fell in love with the sort of mid-sized town and school district. So I'm thrilled to be teaching at a district so similar to the one I student taught at!"

Update: Kansas man seriously injured in Linn County rollover accident

On June 7th around 7:14 p.m. the Kansas State Highway Patrol in Linn County along with Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident in the northbound lane of US 69 Highway near mile marker 98 in rural Linn County.

The Kansas State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2008 Ford SUV driven by 35 year old Cody D. Siegel of Cherokee, Kansas left the roadway to the left into the median, jumped the turnaround causing the vehicle to overturn coming to rest on the passenger side.

Mr. Siegel sustained serious injuries and he was transported to The University of Kansas Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene of this accident by Morse Auto Salvage & Tow.

Obituary - Linda Dickey

Linda Dickey of Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, July 7, 2021 surrounded with the loving care of her husband Bill and her two sons, Kevin and Bill.

Services are pending under the care of Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.
