Butler City Hall temporarily closed due to COVID-19

The Butler City Hall staff are essential employees to the function of the city. Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in Butler, and that city hall staff has possibly been exposed to COVID-19.

We are taking precautionary measures and shutting down City Hall temporarily. This means that no public citizens will be allowed in the building. As an essential function, operations will continue.

Citizens may contact us by phone or email. We apologize for this inconvenience and will update you further once more information is available.


Smoke investigation at Adrian Casey's

The Adrian Fire Department along with assistance of the Butler Fire Department is on scene of a smoke investigation in the kitchen area of Casey's General Store in Adrian at this time. Please avoid this area!

Update: Fire has left the scene and the store is open! It was determined that something burnt in the oven causing the smoke and investigation!

Missouri’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday

Missouri’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 6th and runs through midnight on Sunday, Aug. 8th

During this time, certain back-to-school purchases such as school supplies, computers, clothing and other qualifying items as defined by statute are exempt from state sales tax.

It is with great sorrow that Michael Warren Miles passed on July 29, 2021. But, it is with great joy to know that Michael joined his father (Doran Miles), his mother (Mary Miles), brother (Brad Miles), and beloved son (William Neibel) for eternity in the presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Born in Victoria, Canada on December 28, 1941. Michael immigrated to California, where he obtained his degree. He later met his wife Virginia Kay Miles. They were married for 44 years.

Later on, Michael & Virginia moved to El Dorado Springs, Missouri. Michael worked as a mental healthcare professional for the entirety of his career. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, bowling, & chess. His greatest passion in life was doing The Lord’s work and helping others who were in need.

Michael and Virginia had 6 children. Surviving children are Samantha Nelson, Stephanie King, Michael Miles, Mackenzie Schaefer, and Morgan Brooks.

Grandchildren include Mykenna Sullins, Samuel Sullins, Sommer Moser, Autumn Miles, Kylee Miles, Halle Miles, Brody Miles, Asher McConnaughey, Trevin Schaefer, Brayden Shaefer, Ansley Schaefer, Kennedy Brooks, & Roman Brooks. Great-grandchildren include Serenity Leaver, Cassin Carlock, Alyra Carlock, Daxton Burns, Zayden Leach, Kavias Leach.

Michael will forever be remembered as loving, selfless, Christian husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Obituary - Grace Evelyn Matter

Evelyn Matter, 82, Cleveland, Missouri departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2021 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

She is survived by her lifetime companion, Dee Hewitt of the home; a son, Rick Matter and wife Carmen, Archie, Missouri; a daughter, Lorraine Lackey and husband David, Osceola, Missouri; a step-son, Chad Hewitt and his companion Traci Fuller, Cleveland, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Jason, Paul, Melanie, Crystal, April, Carrie, Ricky, Josh, Max, Nicholas, Brielee and Bradley; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and one on the way; other relatives and friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Evelyn Matter Memorial Fund and make checks payable to Lorraine Lackey or the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
