Vehicle into building in Butler
The Butler Fire Department along Butler Police Department is on scene of a vehicle that crashed into White Oak Station (Conoco) in Butler at this time. Injuries have been reported with this accident!
Obituary - Dawn "Dawnie" Marie Herlund
Dawn M. Herlund, 56, of Garden City, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 28th 2021 at 10:48 A.M. at the Kansas City Hospice House, due to a very aggressive case of Stage 4 Lung Cancer.
Born on July 6, 1965 in St. Paul, Minnesota to her parents Patricia and Kenneth Hall, and is the youngest of her siblings, Steven, Barbara, David, Ronald, and John.
In August of 1986, Dawn married Jon Herlund and they had two children, Heather and Aaron. Dawn worked most of her life serving others, from waitressing to retail sales, and always tried to treat her customers as family and friends. In June of 2014, Dawn achieved her dream of getting a college degree, graduating with an AAS Degree in Business Management.
Dawn had a great love of all things Mickey Mouse, playing cribbage and loved to go fishing. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, playing computer games, and working with her hands, tinkering with different crafts.
Dawn is survived by her husband Jon, her daughter Heather and son-in-law Jayson,with their three sons Kyle, Kaedon, and Jackson, her son Aaron and daughter-in-law Mandi, with their three daughters Becca, Paige, and Maddi, as well as her siblings and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life Potluck picnic held in place of a funeral, on August 29, 2021 from 1 PM to 5 PM. Please feel free to bring a dessert, salad, or whatever you would like, we felt that in doing the celebration this way, people would be able to contribute a little of themselves. Brats and hot dogs will be provided.

Updated Obituary - Ralph Earl Smith
Ralph Smith, 93 of Butler, Missouri passed away February 4, 2021 at Bates County Memorial Hospital. Cremation, with memorial services to be held 10:00 am Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Butler Presbyterian Church. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.
Ralph Earl Smith was born January 25, 1928 in Jackson County, Missouri to Elmer and Lena Britt Smith. He graduated from North East High School in Independence, Missouri and served in the US Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. Following honorable discharge, Ralph attended Johnson County Community College. Then he received his Law Degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Law. Ralph practiced law in Butler, Missouri from 1958 to 2020 and served as the Butler Prosecuting Attorney in 1961. Ralph was united in marriage to Joan John. Through the years Ralph was an active member of Butler Presbyterian Church where he has served as an elder, choir member, and soloist. He was also a dedicated member of Butler Lions Club and Butler Country Club.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan Smith, son Jay Christopher Smith and brothers Floyd and Kenneth Smith,. He is survived by his daughters, Jan Barrett and husband John and Paige Anderson, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Violet Smith, and by many nieces and nephews.
Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Butler (660-679-0009). Memorial contributions may be made to Butler Presbyterian Church. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com.
