Obituary - David C. Paskon

David Cleon Paskon, 74, Belton, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at his home in Belton. 

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 16, 2021 at the First Church of Peculiar in Peculiar, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Two in custody after drive by shooting near Pleasant Hill

Two people are in custody following a report of a drive-by shooting around 3:00 am this morning in the Village of Baldwin Park near Pleasant Hill.

Cass County Deputies were called to a report of a shooting in the area of Circle Drive and found one vehicle that appeared to have been shot numerous times. Investigators made contact with the witness who was standing outside when the incident occurred. That subject provided a vehicle description and identities of the driver and passenger in the vehicle.

Pleasant Hill Police located a vehicle matching the description on Maple Lane a short time later. The Cass County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigations Team processed the area for evidence. Deputies took two subjects into custody at a residence in the 1300 block of Maple Lane, Pleasant Hill.

Both subjects are in custody at the Cass County Jail pending formal charges. There were no reported injuries.


Obituary - Candace Nadine Reidt

Candace Nadine Reidt, 61, Kansas City, Missouri, was born, November 6, 1959, in Long Beach, California, the daughter of Dean O. and Lorretta F. (Raffurty) Reidt. She departed this life unexpectedly Monday, August 2, 2021, at the St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza.

Candy was a 1977 Ruskin High School graduate.

On June 2. 1989, she was united in marriage to John Coyle.

Candy was most recently employed as an accountant for NOAA in Kansas City. She was an active member and treasurer of the P.E.O., Chapter IQ Women’s Education Organization in Independence. She enjoyed gardening, landscaping, philanthropy, reading, spending time with family (particularly her grandson Aden) and friends, and was an avid Chiefs fan.

Candy was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her son, Scott Thomas Reidt of San Antonio, Texas, and her grandson, Aden Scott Reidt; other relatives and friends.

Cremation has been accorded.

A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the Stanley Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

Update: Missing Osawatomie teen found alive and unharmed

Bryant Clancy, 18, was found alive and unharmed late Wednesday, Aug. 18, on property near the city limits, according to a city of Osawatomie news release.

Bryant, who has autism, had been missing since early morning Tuesday, Aug. 10.

The city released the following statement: "We wish to extend our deepest thanks to Osawatomie Police Department, Osawatomie Fire Department, Miami County Sheriff's Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, Missouri Search and Rescue K9, and the countless other agencies and community members who took up the search over the last two days."

Osawatomie Police Chief David Stuteville said Wednesday afternoon that Osawatomie police officers, with assistance from several other agencies, began searching for Bryant in Osawatomie and the surrounding area after his mother awoke early Tuesday to discover he was not in the Osawatomie family’s home.

Stuteville, Capt. Matt Kelly with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, and Osawatomie Deputy Fire Chief Brian Mersman described, during a 3:30 p.m. press conference Aug. 11 inside Osawatomie City Hall, the search efforts that have taken place. Mayor Mark Govea joined these officials in asking for the public’s help in locating Bryant.


Obituary - Norma Rosetta Harber

Norma Rosetta Harber, age 88, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Belton Cemetery.

Rosetta was born in Moody, Missouri on December 31, 1932 to Virgil Lambeth and Lucinda (Franks) Lambeth. As a teenager, Rosetta worked at a grocery store and was baptized at the Moody Baptist Church. Soon after graduating high school Rosetta was joined in marriage with her husband David Harber on March 16, 1952. Together they were blessed with two children, Lela and Joe. Rosetta worked primarily as a homemaker however also worked as a telephone and switchboard operator in West Plains, Missouri.

Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Lucinda Lambeth; daughter, Lela Harber; sisters, Wilma Fleming and Doris Hall; and brothers, Reuel Lambeth, Noel Lambeth, Cleatus Lambeth, and Ben Lambeth.

She is survived by her loving husband, David Lambeth; son, Joe Harber (Charlotte); two grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Harber; three great grandchildren, Julian, Jackie, and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Judith Dene "Judi" (Mitchell) Farris

Judith Dene "Judi" Farris, age 73, of Paola, Kansas, formerly of La Cygne, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. She was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on October 5, 1947 the daughter of Raymond Abram and Juanita Dene Burleson Mitchell. She graduated from La Cygne High School and attended Emporia State University for one semester. 

She was united in marriage to Melvin LeRoy "Butch" Farris on February 27, 1966 in the La Cygne United Methodist Church. They made their first home in Oxnard Air Force Base, Oxnard California. Judi was a strong Christian woman who liked to share Christian joy with others.

She was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church. She and Butch liked to travel and camp. She was an avid bird watcher. She was preceded in death by her parents. Judi is survived by her husband, Butch, a son, Daniel M. Farris(Erica), a daughter, Teresa Dene Henderson(Frank), a brother, Victor Mitchell(Ellie), a sister, Jalayn Love(John), and seven grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Paola United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 pm Friday at the Church. The family suggests contributions to the Mayo Clinic for Granulomatosis Research. The service will be livestreamed. Go to Youtube and search Paola United Methodist Church.
