Jasper man sentenced in Barton County

On August 12, 2021, Judge David Munton sentenced Seth Houston Hall after a trial on June 29, 2021, where in Hall was found guilty of the class D felony of Domestic Assault in the second degree for events occurring July 16, 2018, involving a Barton County woman.

Hall, 31 years of age, of Jasper, Missouri, was sentenced to 7 years in the Department of Corrections. Jurisdiction was retained by the Court under the provision of 559.115, RSMo ITC. Hall was taken into custody by the Barton County Sheriff's Office awaiting transportation to the Department of Corrections.

Butler City Hall will reopen the lobby on Monday August 16th

Butler City Hall will reopen the lobby on Monday August 16, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. We ask that customers practice social distancing while in the lobby. 

Mask are not required to enter City Hall but are recommended. We look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.

Obituary - Kerri Sue Schulze

Kerri Sue Schulze, 64, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Kerri was born March 13, 1957 in Nevada to Robert L. and Patricia S. (O’Toole) Chrisenberry. She was united in marriage to Scott E. Schulze on July 15, 2005 in Nevada and he survives of the home.

Kerri was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1975. She worked for Nevada R-5 School Food Service for 18 years. Kerri loved camping at the lake, “County Cruising”, and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Scott, she is survived by a daughter, Kelsi Maddy (Kyle), Centennial, CO; two grandchildren, Kamden, and Kaden; mother, Pat Chrisenberry, Nevada; a niece, Blair Dickenson; and several cousins. She was preceded in death her father, Bob; a son, Brad Chrisenberry; and brother, Larry Chrisenberry.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested in her memory to the American Lung Association c/o Ferry Funeral Home.



Obituary - Deanna Dee Meek

Deanna Dee Meek, age 46, of Nevada, MO passed away at her home, August 6, 2021. She was born May 23, 1974, in Joplin, MO to Richard Galen Garren Sr. and Emily Viola (Irwin) Garren. She had worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant at area nursing homes. Deanna enjoyed reading, spending time with family, baking and singing.

Deanna is survived by her mother Emily Hogan, Nevada, MO; two sons, Joshua Garren and Joseph Meek, both of Nevada, MO; one daughter, Lashawna Garren, Nevada, MO; one brother, Richard Garren Jr., Butler, MO; one sister, Christi (Gary) Fenton, Nevada; four grandchildren, Arabella, Alexander, Elijah, and Mackenzie. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Dalen Garren Sr., one brother, Kenneth Dale Garren and a nephew, Anthony Scott Ross.

A family celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.

Suspect arrested in burglary attempt at off duty police officers house in Cass County

A warrant was issued for 31 year old Levi G Mitchell; Mitchell is charged with 2nd degree Class E felony Attempted Burglary, Class E felony resisting/interfering with arrest and misdemeanor charge of property damage.

Mr. Mitchell is being held at the Cass County Jail on a no bond warrant.

Original Story:
On 08/10/21 around 7:56pm, a w/m subject attempted to forcibly gain entry into an off duty Pleasant Hill Police Officer's residence.

The officer was not home at the time of the incident. Duty officers were called to the residence and quickly took the subject into custody. The subject is currently in custody pending charges.
