Obituary - Donald Burnell Kelley

Donald Burnell Kelley, 93, of Mound City, Kansas died at his home on Saturday, August 14, 2021. Don was born January 5, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma to Thomas Julius and Madge (Slaght) Kelley. While still a young boy, Don moved to California. At the age of 16 he joined the Merchant Marines, and in 1946 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp (which later became the US Air Force). He retired from the Air Force in 1967 after selflessly serving his country for 21 years.

In 1947 he met the love of his life, Jane Hayden, on a blind date at Malibu Beach, California. They married on February 3, 1948. She preceded him in death on September 19, 2017 after nearly 70 years of marriage. During his military career, he and Jane, along with their daughters, lived in many places, including Alaska and France but they always returned to California. In 1975 he and Jane moved to Mound City where he worked as maintenance supervisor for the City of Mound City until his retirement from civilian life in 1991. While living in Mound City, Don belonged to many organizations, most notably the Masonic Lodge. He and Jane became active members of the Mound City United Methodist Church and the Country Ramblers square dance club. Throughout his life he was extremely passionate about his love for God, family and country.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ricky Kelley; sister, Judy Linam; son-in-law, Wes Friedman; and great-granddaughter, Kelley Tupin.

Survivors include his two daughters, Linda Friedman (Bill Peters) and Donna Parker (Rick); five brothers, Doug Payton (Carmen), Earl Payton (Elma); Jon Kelley (Bev), Jimmy Kelley, and Tommy Joe Kelley; two sisters, Doris Dent and Sharon Tschetter (Jay); two grandsons, Kevin Tupin and Eric Tupin (Nicole); two granddaughters, Gaya Friedman and Michelle Collins (Roger Hochradel), five great-grandchildren along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at noon, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Mound City United Methodist Church. There will be a visitation from 10:00 am until service time. A private family burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, Kansas. Obituary - Linda Jane (Sutterby) Davis

Linda Jane Davis, age 67, Fort Scott, Kansas passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at her home. She was born on March 29, 1954 in Colony, Kansas the daughter of George Calvin and Rosa Jane Wilson Sutterby. She graduated from Blue Mound High School and received cosmetology training at Fort Scott Community College. 

This training launched a career that lasted over forty years. During her career, she felt blessed to develop many friendships. Linda was united in marriage to Gary Gene Davis on October 9, 1982 in Miami, Oklahoma.

She was a member of the Blue Mound Federated Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Calvin Lee Sutterby. Linda is survived by her husband, Gary, two sons, Wes Charles Davis and wife Audett, Cal Gene Davis and wife Lindsey, two brothers, Charles Edwin Sutterby and Curtis George Sutterby, and three grandchildren, Blake Hixon, and Nate and Lane Davis.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Mound City, Kansas. Private committal at the Mapleton Cemetery. Two vehicle accident in Henry County

On August 15th around 11:15 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident sat 10118 E. Missouri 7 Highway in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Chevrolet driven by a 17 year old male juvenile from Clinton, Missouri struck the rear of the 2012 Honda driven by 25 year old Tamera E. Katzenmaier of Tightwad, Missouri.

Tamera E. Katzenmaier sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton for treatment.

Obituary - Michael “Mike” Lee Reighard

Visitation for Mike Reighard will be 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Drexel VFW Building, 110 S 1st Street, Drexel, MO. Michael “Mike” Lee Reighard, age 70 of Drexel, Missouri died Friday, August 13, 2021 at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas. He was born January 3, 1951 to Bob Leo and Helen Marie Cline Reighard in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mike is survived by a daughter, Shawna Hettinger and husband Royce of Drexel, Missouri; a sister, Peggy Lerch of Drexel, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Javyn and Braylen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan Reighard.

Power outage in Rich Hill

As some of you have noticed the north part of Rich Hill is without power at this time. Osage Valley is on scene and working diligently to make repairs as fast as possible.

They are expecting power to be out for a few hours due to several poles that have to be replaced due to damage from the failure of a large tree.
