Obituary - John Meyer

John Meyer, 80 of Louisburg, Kansas passed away Monday, August 23, 2021 at his home in Louisburg. Graveside services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Louisburg Cemetery. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post #250. John Richard Meyer was born August 14, 1941 in Owensville, Missouri to Richard and Marie Lockhart Meyer. He grew up in the Louisburg area and graduated from Louisburg High School in 1959. Following graduation John served his country in the US Air Force, stationed mainly in French Morocco. He was united in marriage to Barbara Richardson and two boys were born to this union, Richard and Bruce.

John worked as a welder for Power & Light until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, and served as Commander for American Legion Post #250, was a member of Voiture 1510, Eight and Forty. He very much loved to hunt, woodworking, and of course welding.John was preceded in death by his parents and sister Darlene.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Meyer, sons Richard and Bruce Meyer, five grandchildren, one great-granchild, and by his siblings, Paul Meyer, Larry Meyer, Sammy Meyer, Donna Cook, and Carolyn Daulton. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, extended family members and many friends.

Obituary - Brandy R. Farr

Brandy R. Farr, 51, Harrisonville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.  

A memorial visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.  

A celebration will be held at a later date.  A complete obituary will be posted when it becomes available.


Structure fire in Butler

The Butler Fire Department along with the Adrian Fire Department are on scene of a structure fire at a address of 1117 W. Mill Street in Butler at this time.

The fire is under control at this time and crews will remain on scene for over hauling. Everyone made it out of the home safe.

Obituary - Timothy Sean Smith

Timothy Sean "Doc" Smith, age 47, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri the son of Johnny Allen Smith and Claudette Irene Hearn. He was raised most of his life by Opal Ruth Smith. He graduated from Pleasanton High School. He then received a Bachelor's Degree from DeVry University and a Master's Degree from Keller Graduate School. He served his country in the United States Army. His family was very proud of his service to our Country. He was united in marriage to Stephanie Catron. 

Tim was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed shooting pool, dirt track racing, listening to Luke Combs, Chiefs Football, Royals Baseball and being involved with anything that had to do with his Dad's music. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Tim is survived by his wife Stephanie, a son, Phillip Smith, daughter, Piper Smith, brother, Johnny Smith(Ann), two sisters, Phyllis Pennington-Whittle(Matt), and a niece and nephew Abigail and Adam Whittle whom he helped raise.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 pm Friday August 27, 2021 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mound City, Kansas. Vigil including Rosary will be 4:30 pm Thursday, August 26 followed by visitation from 5 to 7 pm at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Fatality plane crash in Bates County

On 8/23/2021 at approximately 11 am Dispatch was advised of a possible plane that had crashed northwest of Adrian. Deputies along with the Missouri Highway Patrol, Adrian Police, Adrian Fire, Butler Fire and the Bates County EMS arrived in the area. The exact location was unknown but it was believed to have been in the middle of a corn field. 

Another pilot had observed the plane in the field and landed to help direct emergency responders. A deputy on scene was equipped with a search and rescue drone and immediately deployed the drone to located the plane.
 
The plane was located by the drone and the deputy was able to relay responding emergency personnel to the site through the corn. Additional personnel arrived with UTVs and ATVs to help support the rescue effort.
 
The plane had a single occupant who did not survive the crash. The name is currently being withheld until additional family has been notified. The case is being investigated as a joint investigation with the MSHP, FAA, NTSB, Bates County Sheriff's Office and the Bates County Coroner's Office.
 
Our prayers go out to family and friends of the pilot. No further information will be released until the completion of the investigation.


Obituary - Marilyn Ann Decker

Marilyn Ann Decker, 80, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021 at the Clinton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. She was born February 10, 1941 in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Alfred Heinrich Decker, Sr., and Edna Elizabeth (Fischer) Decker.
Marilyn was an assembler, among various other jobs, at the sheltered workshop. She enjoyed sewing and working puzzles. Surviving are one brother, Al Decker, Jr., and his wife Carol, Clinton, Mo.; one cousin, Betty Jost, Wentzville, Mo.; one nephew, Greg Decker and his wife Cindy, Gardner, Kansas; two nieces, Terri Kung and her husband Darwei, Harrison, New York and Roberta Pearson and her husband Terry, Ozark, Mo.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, George Decker and Robert Decker; and one sister, Delores Decker. Marilyn’s wishes were to be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. Nevada Police Department Incident Spotlight

Nevada Officers responded to a 911 call. During the investigation officers located a subject who had outstanding warrants. They were able to take them into custody.
 
Midnight shift officers stopped a motor vehicle for a violation. During the investigation officers located illegal drugs and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. 

Officers obtained information on a wanted subject. Officers were able to locate the subject and take them into custody. An illegal firearm was also located during the investigation.

Good work to these officers for taking a proactive approach during your patrols.


New Jail Administrator announced at the Vernon County Sheriff Office

New Jail Administrator announced at the Sheriff’s Office Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher announced on Monday that Detective Brett Dawn has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and named the Jail’s new Administrator. 

Lt. Dawn recently earned his master’s degree in Leadership from Liberty University. Before joining the civilian law enforcement field, Lt Dawn served in the Army Military Police. In 2013, Dawn was appointed Captain at a private sector facility before joining the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office as a K-9 handler. 

Dawn continued his career by joining the Pittsburg Police Department in 2016 until 2020, when he returned to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office as a criminal investigator. Sheriff Mosher said “Detective Dawn has been an asset to our department and the community. 

In this new roll, I believe we will see nothing less than the honest, hardworking, and dedicated officer that we’ve come to know.”
