Sarah J. Morrison, 80, Peculiar, Missouri departed this life on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Sarah is survived by two sons, Rick Morrison and wife, Tana, Garden City, Missouri, Steve Morrison and wife Stephanie, Peculiar, Missouri; two daughters, Jackie Garcia and husband Jorge, Peculiar, Missouri, Lora Kurzweil and husband Chris, Harrisonville, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Sarah, Patrick, Lindsey and Kelsey; a brother, Charles Luev, Plattsburg, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Peculiar Cemetery, Peculiar, Missouri.

A Rosary will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with visitation to follow from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Memorial Fund and may be left at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

3rd Annual Butler Bear XC Invitational Results

Butler XC hosted the 3rd Annual Butler Bear XC Invitational on Saturday with a total of 19 teams in attendance. The course was in great condition and the weather was perfect. It was a very smooth day with a lot of great competition.

Thanks to our volunteers for all of your help in making it a great day for all the runners, coaches and fans! Thanks to Jake Duvall, Nancy Sutton, Gregg Webb, Val Craft, Heather Goldammer, Leigh Trumbore, Carmen Behringer, Crystal Eldred, Leslie Hedrick, Lauren Duvall, Damon McGuire, Mike Mallatt, Josie Johnston and Macey Kelso! Obituary - Vera LaVonne Ford

Vera LaVonne Ford, age 56, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Raymore Cemetery, East Lucy Webb Rd., Raymore, Missouri 64083. A celebration of life will be held at Belton VFW, 144 Vivian St., Belton, Missouri 64012 at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 12, 2021.

Vera was born May 9, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri. Vera was a selfless person with an infectious smile who never met a stranger. Vera always cared for those less fortunate, as anyone could tell from her life’s work taking care of others.

Vera is survived by her mother, Sandra Schooling, sister Tina Dellucci (Vic), brother Buddy Ford (Debbie), niece Martina Crandall (Matt), nephew, Joshua Foster (LouLou), great nephews, Bryce, Brayden, Karson, and Easton, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

DeDra has been diagnosed with colon cancer and had surgery last week. She’s still in the hospital while the doctors figure out why she’s having intermittent fevers.

Obituary - Carolyn Denise Lamb

Carolyn Denise Lamb of Garden City, Missouri was born October 15, 1952, at Conley Maternity Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Issac Donald and Lola Grace (Braden) Dilks. She attended grade school in Independence and Blue Springs, Missouri and graduated from Blue Springs High School 1970.

On June 21, 1970, Carolyn was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Lamb at The Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Independence, Missouri.

Together they had three sons, Sean, Steven, and Scott, but she really loved all children. She was very active in church, school and Scouts while living in Independence. She also coached 8-11 year old boys in baseball during the years her boys were active. Carolyn loved to ride motorcycles (road and trail) in those years too. The family moved from Independence to farm near LaTour, Missouri in 1986. She very much liked living in the country. Carolyn (or Carol to many) liked to be around folks. She spent several years working in the Meat Dept of a local grocery in Harrisonville before going to work at Harrisonville Post Office where she retired from in 2014. Carolyn really enjoyed the many people she met while doing those jobs over the years. Carolyn loved to go boating and swimming, and many summer weekends were spent at Truman Lake with kids and grand kids. She also went on many summer vacations with her mom and dad and usually with a couple of kids, grandkids, or nieces/nephews. She loved family, and was active with nieces, nephews, cousins of her extended family. Carolyn always kept a lot of flowers in and around the house. She liked bright colors in her home and in her clothes. Carolyn loved fun things, and you were more likely to see her in jeans or shorts than a dress. We lived next door to her parents, and in his later years she spent a lot of time with/ caring for her dad. Carolyn was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2011, and successfully battled it for 10 years. She succumbed to pneumonia complication on October 6, 2021.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Stanton George Miller.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Larry Lamb of the home; three sons, Sean Lamb and wife Gayle, Drexel, Missouri, Steve Lamb, Garden City, Missouri, Scott Lamb, Creighton, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, David, Leanna, Issac, Brett, Lanie and Payton. 3 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob and Amari and one on the way; a brother, Donald Dilks and wife Barbara, Burleson, Texas; 2 sisters, Darlene Payne and wife Bill, Blue Springs, Missouri, Debbie Dilks, Booneville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

Cremation. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with inurnment following the service at Blairstown Cemetery, Blairstown, Missouri.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the funeral home.

Obituary - Monica Renee Newhouse-Hayde

Monica Renee Newhouse-Hayde, age 59, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

Renee was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 4, 1962 to Richard Lee Newhouse and Martha Sue (Dirkschneider) Newhouse. In life she was blessed with two daughters, Ingrid and Ashley. She had a love for animals that knew no bounds, especially dogs. Renee also enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs play and was an avid fan of Twilight, Harry Potter, and especially the lifelong love of the Wizard of Oz. “A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others” - Wizard of Oz. Renee lived by her planner and ofter referred to it as her “bible”.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Martha Sue Newhouse.

She is survived by her two loving daughters, Ingrid Bedtke (Paul) and Ashley Hayde; brother, Bart Newhouse (Lorie); five grandchildren, Rylan, Lilly, Kaden, Mason, and Greta Bedtke; nephew, Brent Newhouse; niece, Breanna Gaylord (Mitchell); and two great nieces and a great nephew, Adalynn Nowell, Amelia Gaylord, and Augustus Gaylord. Renee was a very engaged, loving and caring mom, sister, aunt, and grandma. She was know as aunt “Nay Nay“ and Mimi by her nephews, nieces, and grandchildren.

Obituary - Dr. L.M. Magruder

Dr. L.M. Magruder of Nevada, Missouri passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. He was born on March 18, 1940 in Lentner, Missouri to Charles F. and Jewell M. Magruder. At age 3, his parents and family moved to Kirksville, Missouri, where he attended grade school. He then lived in Shelbina, Missouri with his Aunt Dora Mae and Uncle Harold Gilbert and graduated from high school in 1958. Dr. Magruder attended Truman State University and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science teaching degree in Science and Chemistry. At that time, he was also a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society. He entered medical school the following fall at the University of Missouri School of Medicine and graduated in 1966.

Upon graduation from the University of Missouri School of Medicine, he received the Family Practice Award for the most outstanding student in Family Practice Medicine. He served his internship at Broadlawn's Polk County Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa from 1966-1969. After, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Elsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota for two years. He was a member of the Strategic Air Command support group and particpated in medical care for B52 bomber pilots and their families during the Vietnam War. He then practiced medicine in Chadron, Nebraska from 1969 until 1973. On August 7, 1973, he married his wife, Janice and together they raised two daughters, Julie and Christy. He joined Nevada Medical Clinic that same year where he finished his career in 2003.

Dr. Magruder was a member of the Nevada Regional Medical Center staff from 1973-2003 and the NRMC Foundation from 2005-2010. He was appointed by Governor Ashcroft in 1990 to the Coordinating Board of Higher Education, where he served until 1996. He served as medical director of Park Care Manor from it's opening in 1994 until 2003, and was Assistant Medical Director at Nevada Manor for many years. Dr. Magruder was a member of the West Central Missouri Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Nevada Elks Lodge, First Baptist Church, and American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Jan of the home, two daughters, Julie Scotten (Troy) Nevada, Missouri, and Christy Wong (Howie) Abbotsford, B.C., Canada, seven grandchildren, Jordan Cauthon (Anthony), Evan Wong (Margaret), Taylor Scotten (Paije), Brendon Wong, Katie Wong, Janna Scotten (Klay), and Melinda Wong, and six great-grandchildren, Paizlei, Scottie, Trigger, Sawyer, Knox and Kooper.

He is also survived by his brother, Jack Magruder Kirksville, Missouri, sister-in-law, Ilene Magruder Fort Dodge, Iowa, sister-in-law Susan Gold (Larry) Council Bluffs, Iowa, brother-in-law Steve Lecher (Diane) Chadron, Nebraska, brother-in-law Curt Lecher (Mary) Chadron, Nebraska, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

Mitch was dedicated to his family and community, and was fortunate to have spent his life in the company of wonderful colleagues and lifelong friends. He will be missed by many.

In honor of Mitch, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Nevada with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Newton Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday evening at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
