Street Closure in Harrisonville

PLEASE READ: As city of Harrisonville crews begin making much-needed repairs to the dams and spillways at the lakes in City Park, we want to make you aware of some upcoming road closures.

Beginning Monday (12/6), Sunnyswim Street will be closed past the Family Center Farm & Home Dog Park. This means guests will not have access to shelters 7-9, the paintball field or the golf course.

Also beginning Monday, Bluegill Boulevard will be closed from Ash Street to the caboose near shelter 3.

Coats for kids a great success

The Bates County Elks Lodge #2653 presented Coats for Kids with a check for $1750.00. This was made possible with a grant from the Elks National Foundation.

Country Star Joe Nichols announced as 2022 Rich Hill 4th of July Entertainer

The 2022 Entertainer is JOE NICHOLS!! FREE Concert on July 2, 2022 at 8pm in Rich Hill's West Park (Park Place).

Obituary - Frank Lochiano

Frank Lochiano, 90 of Drexel, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Louisburg Healthcare & Rehab in Louisburg, Kansas. Cremation, with a visitation to be held Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (816-657-4400). There will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Drexel VFW. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.mullinaxfuneralhome.com

Frank was born June 12, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank and Violet Suggs Lochiano. He served in the US Navy from June 14, 1948 to June 10, 1952 aboard the U.S.S. Andromeda. Following his honorable discharge he worked at the Bendix Corporation. After that worked as a salesman for Columbia Steel selling grain bins. Later on in life he worked as a handy man doing odd jobs. Frank was a proud member of the Drexel VFW for many years.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy McAnany Lochiano, daughter Linda, and brother Anthony. He is survived by his sister Mary Carlson, grandsons Clint Napton and wife Cathy of Joplin, MO. and Brett Napton and wife Jessica of Lee’s Summit, MO. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Shane, Megan, Caitlin, Ryan, and Cale.

Drexel Championship Football Parade set for today at 4pm

The community is welcomed to attend the Drexel Football Team Championship Parade today at 4pm on main street in Drexel.

The Bobcats finished a undefeated season last night (13-0) after defeating the Worth County Tigers 48-42 in a epic 8-Man Championship football game held at Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium in Columbia.

Drexel Junior QB Jacob Coffey finished the game with 180 rushing yards on 31 carries and four touchdowns on the ground. Coffey also added 156 yards passing and 2 scores through the air to set the pace for the Drexel offense.

Drexel Senior Cory Cumpton added 93 yards receiving and two touchdowns for the Bobcats. Ethan Dayringer led the Drexel defensive effort with 12 tackles and a pair of pass breakups.

The play of the game was made by Senior Cory Cumpton as Worth County was driving late in the 4th quarter he came up with a interception at the 2 yard line of Drexel with 22 seconds left to seal the deal for the Bobcats.

Obituary - James Robert Perkowski

James Robert Perkowski, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 28, 2021 in Raymore, Missouri. At Perk’s request, no services are planned. A family celebration will be held in Carlsbad, New Mexico at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital of Salt Lake City.

James Robert accumulated many nicknames over the years – Bob, Jim, JR – but many people knew him as Perk. He was born June 12, 1926 in Hiawatha, Utah, the youngest child of Sylwester “Sam” Perkowski and Christiana “Anna” Jensen Perkowski. Young Bob survived a childhood bout with polio, spending an extended period away from his family at Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Salt Lake City. The family later moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he graduated with the Carlsbad High School class of 1944. Upon graduation, Perk served his country in the U.S. Navy. He went on to attend the University of Houston, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration. He was employed for many years by the U.S. National Laboratories, starting with Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque.

While at Sandia, he met and married the love of his life, Violet Elizabeth Brown. Over the nearly 65 year

s of their marriage, they moved many times for work: Las Vegas, NV; Livermore, CA; Albuquerque, NM; Roswell, NM; El Paso, TX; eventually settling back in Roswell, New Mexico, where they both retired from Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (TMC). Bob and Vi played duplicate bridge and enjoyed traveling the US playing bridge, seeing the sights and visiting grandchildren. Perk was an avid coin collector and backyard turtle enthusiast. After he lost Violet in 2019, he moved to Raymore, Missouri where he enjoyed birdwatching, country drives and lots of chocolate ice cream cones.

James Robert was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Violet; his parents, Sam and Anna; brothers: Earl, Fred, Jack and Walter; and his beloved big sister, Geraldine. He is survived by daughter, Kathi and husband, Roger Mills, of Cleveland, Missouri; daughter, Tricia and husband, Matthew Jones, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and son, Mike Perkowski of Roswell, New Mexico. He will be lovingly missed by his six grandchildren: Hannah, Laine, and Tessa Mills; Cassie, Zane, and Toby Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
