Obituary - Timothy Michael Lusk

Timothy Michael Lusk, 47, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 following a lengthy illness. Tim was born January 11, 1975 in Columbia, MO to George Daniel and Laura Lee (Rondo) Lusk. He married Cynthia M. Tipton on September 16, 2000 in Rockville, MO and she survives of the home.

Tim grew up in the Walker and Schell City area graduating from Schell City High School in 1994. He formerly worked as a cook at Echos, Heros, and Country Kitchen in Nevada. Tim was known for woodworking and rock carving with Cynthia. He loved playing with his grandchildren and going rock hunting.

In addition to his wife Cynthia, he is survived by two daughters, Krystle Stewart (fiance, Tim Stone), and their son, Kayden, Nevada; and Amanda Roof (Edwin) and their children, Lexxus, Bentlii, Tymber, and Porchia, Nevada; mother, Laura Lusk, Walker, MO; two brothers, Marc Lusk (Beth), Nevada, MO, and Joe Lusk (Anna), Walker, MO; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel, and a sister, Beverly Jones.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the 2022 Spring Sheriff’s Citizens Academy

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the 2022 Spring Sheriff’s Citizens Academy (SCA). The program is an eight-week course gives citizens an in-depth look and hands on training into the career of law enforcement at the sheriff’s office. Citizens are instructed by deputies on the subject of patrol, jail, communications, investigations, court, and community policing.

The SCA is an 8-week program, in which courses are held once per week on Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. until approximately 9:30 p.m. Each week a new topic is introduced and discussed. Citizens will also have the opportunity to ride along with a patrol deputy, work with jail deputies and communication officers. This enables them to observe first-hand how the sheriff’s office handles incidents.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older, have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions and must be a resident or business owner in Cass County There is NO cost for participants. Each student who successfully completes the citizen academy will take part in graduation.

Roy Allen McGuire, age 65 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Friday, January 14, 2022 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born October 21, 1956 to Dewey and Nelda Lee Jones McGuire in Galveston, Texas.

Roy is survived by three daughters, Amy, Emily and Megan; his father, Dewey McGuire of Butler, Missouri; two brothers, Gary McGuire and wife Rachelle of Canada and Dewey Lee McGuire and wife Cheryl of Cleveland, Missouri; two sisters, Linda Christopher and husband Robert of Butler, Missouri and Julie Conrad of Rich Hill, Missouri; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nelda Lee McGuire; and brother, Terry McGuire.

Obituary - David Wayne Earlston

David Wayne Earlston, age 68, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022.

A celebration of David’s life will be held with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

David was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on November 24, 1953 to Henry Arthur Earlston and Shirley Jean (Guillemot) Earlston. David worked for most of his life in construction as well as HVAC services. In life he was blessed with one son. David was a faithful fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Jayhawks basketball, and Oklahoma football. He could be most known by his passion of classic cars. With so many friends in the car scene, David would spend most of his time around them.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Shirley Earlston; and step father, Virgil Luce.

He leaves behind his son, David A. Earlston (wife Keri); three sisters, Jaye Ingram, Tonie Clark, and Cindy Matthews (husband Ron); two grandsons, Carson and Ethan Earlston; two nieces, Taylor Presutti (husband Joey) and Dorothy Ingram; and nephew, Clint Earlston (wife Yumi).

Obituary - Virginia I. Rogers

Virginia I. Rogers, 92, of Freeman, Missouri passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, January 18, 2022. 

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial in Freeman Cemetery, Freeman, MO. 

The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00pm Monday at the funeral home. Contributions made be made to the American Cancer Association. A complete obituary will be added when it becomes available.

Cold Wind Chills




Much cooler air is expected to work into the region today leading to falling temperatures. By tomorrow morning, wind chills are expected to range from -5 to -20 F.

A wind chill advisory is in effect from northern Missouri to the Canadian border. Make sure you dress for the weather the next few days!

Jagur Eidson scores 1,000th point in his basketball career

Congratulations to Butler Senior Jagur Eidson on scoring his 1,000th career point in basketball tonight in a 54-41 win against the Clinton Cardinals at home.

The Bears will be the number 2 seed in next weeks 92 Annual Archie Invitational Basketball Tournament.
