Update: Fire on the square in Osceola

01/20/2022 - 2:55pm: We just received an update from Clinton Fire Chief Mark Manuel, on scene at the commercial fire in downtown Osceola.

Two large commercial buildings are involved in the fire with four separate business occupants displaced. Fire crews are still actively fighting fire and are working hard to prevent fire spread to separate attached building.

Due to the extent of fire damage, building construction, and other building features, fire crews are unable to make entry into the building to reach the seat of the fire.

A coordinated defensive fire attack is in progress with all agencies on scene. More information will be released later today.

Myra Ellen Dickinson (Parks) was born October 24, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to Leonard & Viola Parks. Myra passed away at west Missouri medical center on January 18th, 2022 at 3:02pm.

Myra was united in marriage to Robert Curtis Dickinson and to this union two daughters were born.

Myra was baptized on October 22, 2017. Her love for the Lord was very special to her. She adored her grandchildren! Anytime they would visit she would take them around the whole store and say this is “one” of my grand babies. She was always so proud of them! She loved being outside on her porch enjoying the beautiful weather, watching hallmark movies, and singing and dancing to her favorite music.

Myra worked many jobs, but Walmart was her life. She retired after 22 years but then after a short break she was back for 7 more years. As all of you know Myra’s work life at Walmart was very special to her. She adored everyone there and loved helping the customers. We are sure right now she is with Sam chatting about all the years she put in. She was blessed by all of you at Walmart.

Myra was preceded in death by her husband Robert Dickinson, her parents, grandparents, and her brother Dean Parks.

Myra is survived by her two daughters; Tammy and Erica, her sisters Jeanie and Jodie, two brothers; Leonard and Neal, and her grandchildren; Brea, Kylie, Jadyn, and Brina.

From the Appleton City R-2 School District

Due to the current number of staff that we have out and a shortage of available substitutes, we will not be in session on Friday, January 21. We will NOT be using an AMI day. We will make up the day on March 7th.

Hopefully an extra day of rest will help give our staff that are ill an extra day to rest and give our custodial staff time to deep clean the buildings.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope everyone will take the extra day to rest up and stay healthy. We’ll see students back in the buildings on Tuesday.
