Update: Fire destroys buildings on Osceola square

Clinton fire crews have returned to Clinton safely after assisting at the fire located in downtown square of Osceola today. 

The fire is in a smoldering stage at this time with several local fire departments tending the fire overnight.

3 aerial trucks (including the CFD’s aerial platform - Ladder 1), 21 tanker trucks, several pumpers and roughly 100 firefighters battled the blaze today.

No one was injured in this fire and we would like to thank everyone who worked hard today out in the cold!

Fugitive Sex Offender Captured in Cass County

Belton, MO - Around 4:30 pm today the Cass County Sheriff's Office Criminal Apprehension Unit was requested to help in the arrest of a wanted fugitive from Clay County Missouri.
 
The Clay County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff's Office CAU captured 27 year old Branden L. Scales, of Kansas City Missouri who is wanted on Statutory Sodomy/Attempt-Deviate Sexual Intercourse With A Person Less Than 14 Yrs Old warrant.
 
An investigation led to a house in the 20000 block of S. Mullen in Belton where the subject was found hiding inside.

Clay County Sheriff's Deputies transported the subject to the Clay County Jail.

Obituary - Robert “Bob” Ray Earlywine

Robert “Bob” Ray Earlywine of Harrisonville, Missouri was born November 21, 1937 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the son of Dwight Otis and Harriet (Crowe) Earlywine. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 28 days.

On September 5, 1964, Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Stafford in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Bob was a graduate from Ozark Christian College in 1976 and was ordained as a minister in 1976. He was the pastor at the Christ Church and New Testament Christian in Harrisonville for 30 years. He loved being in the outdoors and growing a vegetable garden every year.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Earlywine and a sister, Jayne Mastroianni.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dorothy Earlywine of the home; a daughter, Greta Rae Earlywine Riffle, Kansas City, Missouri; a son, Travis Dwight Earlywine, Olathe, Kansas; 6 grandchildren, Samuel, Katherine and Benjamin Riffle, Jackson, James and Jonathan Earlywine; a brother, James Earlywine, Danville, Ohio; Patricia Mickly, Mount Vernon, Ohio; other relatives and friends.

A private family service was held at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered During Pursuit in Belton

Cass Co – Around 4:00 pm Wednesday, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit arrested one person in a stolen 2019 Kia Forte in the area of 163rd and Spring Valley Road in Belton following a short vehicle pursuit.

Cass County Deputies responded to the area of E 155th Street north of Belton after receiving information that a Kansas City Police Helicopter had followed a stolen vehicle to the area just north of Cass County. 

The suspect in the stolen vehicle had fled from KCPD Officers earlier in the day and was being pursued by Grandview Police when deputies arrived in the area.

Cass County Deputies and Belton Police searched the area south of 155th Street near Spring Valley where they located the stolen vehicle. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle at which time the driver sped away.

Cass County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Apprehension Unit Deputies were able to deploy a Grappler device and stop the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without further incident. I will continue to provide our deputies with the proper resources, such as the Grappler, to apprehend these dangerous criminals and keep Cass County Safe.

“This pursuit lasted just 2 minutes from the time deputies started chasing the suspect until they were able to deploy their Grappler device and bring the pursuit to a quick and safe conclusion. The driver, Marcus A. Howard, 26, Belton, was arrested and transported to the Cass County Jail.

The Cass County Prosecutor’s Office charged Marcus Howard with Felony Tampering with a Motor Vehicle and Felony Resisting Arrest Creating a Substantial Risk of Serious Injury/Death to Any Person. The judge in the case released Howard with a Signature bond.
