Obituary - Cheri Myrl Steele

The funeral service for Cheri will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri.

Visitation will precede the service from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 p.m. Officiating at the service will be Reverend Robert Clark.

Interment will follow in the Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to the Disabled American Veterans, and may be left at the funeral home the day of the service.

Cheri Myrl Steele, 70, of Archie, Missouri, passed away January 27, 2022.

She was born in Appleton City, Missouri on March 5, 1951.

Cheri graduated from Appleton City High School in 1969, as salutatorian. She later attended Metropolitan Community College where she obtained an Associates degree. She later became certified as a Fellow, Life Management Institute in 1998.

She was married to Robert Eugene Steele on April 8, 1989. They would have celebrated their 33rd year of marriage this year.

Cheri had a career as a financial analyst at Forrest T. Jones and Associates, where she eventually retired.

She had a deep passion for all things butterflies. Cheri always spoke of a time in her life where the evolution of the butterfly gave her hope and inspiration. It helped her through many times in her life to continue evolving herself and living with an infectious finesse. Cheri also had a deep passion for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, rock music, and the mountains of Utah.

Cheri was survived by her husband Robert Eugene Steele; her son and his wife, Brett and Lindsay Ballinger; her daughter and her husband, Tamara and Chris Jackson; her 6 grandchildren, Shelby Ballinger, Lucas and Lauren Childs, Bryce and Derek Ballinger, and Natalie Jackson; and her brother and his wife, Fletcher and Betty Reichart.

Cheri was preceded by her parents James Ray “Briggs” and Irene Ruth Tredway; her brother Charles Tredway; her sister and her husband Charlotte and Bob Erhardt; and her sister and her husband Pat and Ken Philbrook.

Cheri will be remembered for her tenacious and bold personality, her contagious smile, and unyielding sense of humor. The family asks in lieu of gifts to make a donation to Disabled American Veterans.

Obituary - Barbara Slater

Barbara Slater, age 85, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Friday, February 4, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory.

Obituary - Phyllis Mary Talbot

Phyllis's family has scheduled A Celebration of Life on Feb. 12 at the Community of Christ Church in Clinton.

Phyllis Mary (Watson) Talbot,72, was born on March 14, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois daughter to Slyvia Slyk and James Watson. She departed this life on January 28, 2022 at the Appleton City Manor.

Phyllis met the love of her life, Laurel Talbot the age of sixteen. They met square dancing in Arlington Heights, IL. They were married Oct 4, 1967. Together they had 5 children. They were married for 48 years until Laurel passed away in 2015.

Phyllis graduated with her Bachelors, Masters, and Specialist in Education from Northwest State University. She loved teaching children. In 1995, Phyllis and Laurel moved to Appleton City to be the Title I Reading Teacher in Appleton City R-2 School District. in 1998, Phyllis was the Principal of the Montrose R-14 School District. In 2003, she became a Co-Superintendent for the Ballard R2 School District. For the past several years she was a beloved family member, substitute teacher, at the Lakeland School District where she was known as “Mrs. T”.

Phyllis had many hobbies which includes sewing, reading, gardening, cooking, and canning. She was known to give out her Christmas bread every year to friends and family. She also loved her cat, Patch and dog, Yoda.

When asked about challenges of going through cancer treatments, Phyllis quoted the book Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. "We can't go over it. We can't go under it. Oh no! We got to go through it!"

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Laurel, her brother Jim, her stepbrother Jack, and her grandson Sean Michael Weston. She survived by her stepsisters Kathy and Patty and by her children Bill Talbot (Celia), Atlanta, GA, Dennis Talbot (Diane) Urich, Mo, Mary Talbot (Auto Anniss) Hamilton, New Zealand, Anna Weston (Sean), Kansas City, Mo, Tim Talbot (Jennifer), Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Elli, Matthew, Michael, Nicholas, Bryce, Andrew, and Emmett.

Obituary - Carole Susanne Hoefer

Carole Hoefer, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Medicalodges in Butler, Missouri. 

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 2 at the First Christian Church in Deepwater, Missouri. Visitation will be at 10:30 AM prior to the service. Burial to follow in Deepwater Cemetery.

Clinton Lady Cardinals win the tournament championship



Congratulations to the Clinton Lady Cardinals Basketball Team on winning the 44th annual Clinton Invitational Basketball tournament tonight.
