Any updates will be posted on our Facebook page and emails will be sent out to all customers that have an email on file.

Obituary - Janette Christine (Christy) Clifton

Janette Christine (Christy) Clifton, 51, Adrian, MO, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2022 at Adrian Christian Church in Adrian, with visitation from 10:00-11:00. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Adrian Christian Church.

Christy was born June 15, 1970 to John and Marge Clifton of Adrian, MO. She started kindergarten in Adrian and transferred to Passaic State School and after its closing, finished her education at the Harrisonville State School where she graduated at the age of 21. After graduating, she began working at Casco Work Shop in Harrisonville and later went to work at Bates County Industries where she was currently employed.

We were so blessed, Willow Creek Group Home provided transportation for Christy to work and numerous other activities she attended with the Willow Creek ladies. Christy enjoyed being with her Willow Creek friends and loved going to work. Christy attended the Adrian Christian Church her entire life and was baptized on July 4, 1999. She loved her family and friends, watching Chiefs’ football, and attending Adrian school sports to watch her host of nieces and nephews.

Christy is survived by her mother Marge Clifton of the home, Danny and Sandy Clifton of Drexel, Patti Clifton of Adrian, John and Pam Clifton of Adrian, and Kim and Gerald Shaffer of Adrian and a host of nieces and nephews.

Dear Blackhawks:

As you may already know, there are predictions for snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday throughout the day. We want to prepared you in advance. 

While we prefer not to use AMI days, we have the potential to be out for several days if we have large amounts of snow fall. In fact, here is the plan for the remainder of the week if we cannot be back in school this week:

-Wednesday - AMI Day
-Thursday – AMI Day
-Friday - AMI Day

Students are counted for attendance on AMI days through any of 4 methods:
1. Communicating with teachers in real time via online or phone on each AMI day.
2. Logging into Google Classroom and being active there
3. Submitting assignments via Google Classroom or email to the teacher prior to returning to school
4. Submitting assignments upon the day of returning to school.

All students are responsible for completing the activities and assignments. All assignments for the AMI day will be reinforcing or reviewing previous learning or previewing information that will be used in upcoming classes or lessons. Note that if we are AMI Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that assignments are not due until the students return to the school on Monday.

We appreciate your patience and help during this time as we know this is not the ideal situation. We hope to be open as much as possible. Teachers will be in communication with students and/or parents if an AMI day is announced. If you have questions, please reach out to us and let us know.

Obituary - Frances Louise Belcher

Frances Louise Belcher, 92, Nevada, MO passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones due to a short illness at her home on Monday, January 24, 2022.

Louise was born April 21, 1929, in a red brick home in Fresno, CA. She was the third of five children born to Samuel Henry and Maude Ethel (Pike) Yurk. Louise loved growing up with her large family and helping her momma take care of the family. Throughout her childhood, Louise lived in several places but settled down in Nevada, MO to raise her children. She worked as a seamstress at Nellie Don in Nevada until retiring in 1981.

Louise had many hobbies that she shared with her loved ones. She spent her mornings with a cup at coffee outside watching birds – including her hummingbirds. Louise spent her summers in the garden. She loved the outdoors, going for walks, fishing, camping even just sitting on the front porch, whatever she could to be closer to nature. In the winters she spent her time inside crafting, playing cards with her grandkids, baking pies, watching Wheel of Fortune, and reading her Bible. Louise also jumped at any chance to go to second hand shops, the farmers market, or berry picking. Above all, God and her family was of the utmost importance to her. She was a member the Lutheran Church in Ft. Scott, KS.

She is survived by one son, Dwight Belcher (Christie) of Ft. Scott, KS; seven grandchildren, Shawn Belcher (Kelly), Shelly Belcher Claypool, David Belcher, Dwight Belcher, Jr. (Stephanie), Dawn Belcher Wolfe (Anthony), Cassie Belcher, and Dustin Belcher (Jordan); 21 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Dwain Belcher; three brothers, Raymound Yurk, Sam Yurk, and Bill Yurk; one sister, Betty Ann Overton; a daughter-in-law, Christie Belcher; and a great granddaughter, Noelle Belcher.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

 

Obituary - Grace Matilda Taute

Funeral services for Grace Taute of Butler, Missouri will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) Butler, Missouri. 

Visitation prior to service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Contributions to Heartland Hospice or Leukemia Association. Online condolences www.schowengerdtchapel.com.

Grace Matilda Taute, age 88 of Butler, Missouri died Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler. She was born January 29, 1934 to Fred and Matilda Kreppein Aulgur in Kansas City, Missouri.

Grace is survived by her husband, Verle Lee Taute of Butler, Missouri; two daughters, Charlene Rees and husband Brin of Mesquite, Texas and Kay Davis and husband Mike of Amoret, Missouri; 10 grandchildren • 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two-year-old daughter, Ceclilia Marie Stevens; six brothers; and two sisters.

Winter Storm Warning Through Thursday

 Winter Storm Warning issued for much of the area. Significant impacts to travel expected. Significant snowfall expected beginning tonight, especially in central and eastern MO. Make plans now to stay off the roads on Wednesday. Travel could be extremely hazardous.

Obituary -June Bond Gowing

June Bond Gowing, age 86, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

June was born on December 6, 1935 in Linn County, Kansas, the oldest child of Ruth and Clarence Bond. After graduating from LaCygne Rural High School in 1953 she moved to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1954 she married Bill Gowing, they lived in the South Kansas City area prior to moving to Belton in 2010.

June was a member of the Red Bridge United Methodist Church where she was active in the Genesis Class, LAFF and the Tuesday Morning Bible Study Group. She was a charter member of the Longview Twisters Square Dance Club and an avid supporter of square dancing for many years.

June was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Don Bond.

She is survived by her husband Bill of sixty-eight years; sons Rick Gowing, Phoenix, Arizona and Bill Gowing, Raymore, Missouri; sister, Janice Hill, Butler, Missouri; brother Gene Bond, Madison Kanas; grandchildren, Christen, Jessica, Stephen, and Amanda; and six great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a memorial fund at Red Bridge United Methodist Church, 636 E. 117th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.

Obituary - Ira Daniel Hogan Jr.

Ira Daniel Hogan, Jr., 75, Horton, MO passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Dan was born August 25, 1946 in Nevada, MO to Ira D. Hogan, Sr. and Angeline M. (Varone) Hogan.

Dan grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1964. While working at Nellie Don in Nevada he met the love of his life, Sheila Rife, whom he married before he was drafted and went to Vietnam. After spending two years in Germany, the Army sent him home where he took a job with the Missouri Pacific Railroad where he was employed for 37 years. He worked as a telegrapher at numerous train depots until Union Pacific bought them and then he was a customer service representative in St. Louis then Omaha until he retired in 2006. He has lived in Horton the past 57 years. Dan enjoyed talking to people and telling stories. He could be found somewhere outside in his yard or garden or at his favorite fishing spots. He loved spending time with his daughter and granddaughter.

Dan and Sheila had celebrated 55 years together before her passing on September 5, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Rutledge (fiance, Mark Van Doren) of Horton, MO; granddaughter, Angeline Maria Rutledge (fiance, Rush Wilson) of the home, his brother, Russell (Tammy) Hogan of Nevada, MO; sister, Linda (Ed) Heflin, of Poplar Bluff, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Randy Call officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery in Horton. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
