Obituary - Verner Vesper Creek, III

Verner Vesper Creek, III, 72, Republic, MO, formerly of Nevada, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2022. Verner was born September 4, 1949, in Nevada, MO to Verner V. Creek, II, and Tisha A. (Braswell), Creek.

Verner was born and raised in Nevada. He worked in the family business with his parents at Dari Crème while growing up. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1967 and then attended the University of Missouri-Rolla. Verner worked for a time at Venture Department Stores and the Gillette Company, both in Chicago. 

In the early 1990’s he moved to Uniontown in western Arkansas and worked at a television station in Ft. Smith as Production Engineer. In 1992 Verner moved to the Branson, MO area and later to Republic, MO in 2008.

Survivors include his daughter, Marissa Casey (Kyle), Springfield, MO; two sisters, Martha Swenson, Nevada, and Virginia Creek, Nevada; one nephew and his family of Nevada; and several cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Donald Creek.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials are suggested to the Arbor Day Foundation c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Bates County Administrative Order Closing Judicial Offices 2-2-2022

Due to the impending weather conditions the Bates County Circuit Court Presiding Judge Brandon Baker has closed the Court for tomorrow February 2, 2022.

If you have Court scheduled contact your attorney for your new date. February 3, 2022 is to be determined at a later time.

Expected Snowfall



[4:35 pm] Here is the latest snowfall accumulation forecast. Accumulating snow is expected to begin late this evening and continue into late Wednesday AM. 

Another round of snow is expected Wednesday evening into midday Thursday, primarily for areas south and east of the KC metro. There is still a decent amount of uncertainty through the KC metro with these totals. 

A slight shift to the southeast would lead to lesser amounts while a slight shift to the northwest would lead to greater amounts. Stay tuned to the forecast!

Obituary - William A. "Bill" Ballou

William A. "Bill" Ballou, 80, of Hume, Missouri died at Medicalodge Butler, Butler, Missouri on Monday, January 31, 2022. Bill was born to Walter and Juanita Maxine Ballou on August 21, 1941 at Fort Scott, Kansas the oldest of 5 children. 

He graduated from Uniontown High School, Uniontown, Kansas. Bill was an aircraft painter, working for many years for Cessna and Boeing in Wichita, Kansas.

On November 26, 1988, Bill married Judith A. (Randolph) Scheppers.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his wife Judy; one son, Stephen (Tina) Scheppers; two daughters, Lisa (Scheppers) Taker and Jenny (Scheppers) Reynolds; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

According to Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The family suggests contributions to Alzheimer's Association or Heartland Hospice in care of Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 525, Pleasanton, Kansas 66075. From the Harrisonville R-8 School District

Due to the forecasted winter weather for our area, The Harrisonville School District is canceling in-person school for tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb. 2) for all students. Students will participate in AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction)/virtual learning. 

They will be bringing home Chromebooks and/or packets of schoolwork. Families will receive further information from their student's teacher via email.

No School for the Clinton School District Tomorrow and Thursday

NO SCHOOL, 2/2 AND 2/3:

Due to the forecasted inclement weather, Clinton Schools will not be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2nd and Thursday, February 3rd.

These will be traditional snow days, with no remote learning taking place. So, enjoy building those snowmen, drinking that hot chocolate and spending time with your family.

From the Miami R-1 School District

Due to the anticipated inclement weather, Miami will have an AMI day instead of in-person learning for Wednesday, Feb. 2nd. School messenger will be sending this notification out today as well!

Thursday and Friday may become AMI days, too. Updates will be posted as soon as we know.

AMI packets were sent home on Jan. 20th. The packet is intended for three days of AMI. Students will be held accountable for completing the assigned work. AMI attendance will be based on completed assignments returned to school.

Oklahoma man arrest on warrants in Bates County

On February 1st around 8:19 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 55 year old Billie D. Brown of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Mr. Brown was arrested for 1.) Felony Kansas City Missouri Police Department Warrant 2.) Misdemeanor Nevada Police Department Warrant.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he was currently listed as bondable.
