Arrest made in burglary in Paola Kansas


Case update: Miami Lumber Burglary:

The Paola Police Department arrested a 60-year-old Paola man in connection with the Miami Lumber burglary that occurred on 02/17/22.

Investigators began to receive leads from outside agencies in regard to the bulletin posting of the suspect vehicle and suspect, taken from security video images. They also received anonymous tips regarding a possible suspect from the Paola Police Facebook post.

Randall Allen Wilson was taken into custody Wednesday at his Paola home and was booked into the Miami County Jail on charges of burglary, felony theft, and criminal damage to property.

Obituary - Rebecca Lou Elliston

Rebecca Lou Elliston, age 60, of El Dorado Springs, MO, passed away with her mother by her side on Wednesday afternoon March 2, 2022, at her home in Carl Junction, MO, where she had lived the last 11 months with her brother Mark. Rebecca was born on August 17, 1961, in Columbia, MO, the daughter of Tom and Ruth (Allee) Elliston. 

Rebecca accepted the Lord in 1971 and was Baptized on November 14, 1971 at First Baptist Church, Webb City, MO. Rebecca attended Webb City High School. She then obtained her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia, as well as her Juris Doctorate degree in 1988. Becky married Bill Jordan in 1980, and to this union was born 1 daughter, Chandelle (Jordan) Frakes. 

She went on to marry Thomas Huff on September 18, 1993, and to this union was born a daughter, Jinger (Huff) Wright. Tom and Becky lived on their farm in El Dorado Springs since 1999. She enjoyed shopping, playing cards, camping, cooking, casinos trips, and spending time with friends and family. She opened her law office in Stockton in 1989, served one term as Cedar County Prosecuting Attorney, and 17 years as Public Defender, retiring in August 2018. She was passionate about law, and loved mentoring new attorneys.

Preceding Becky in death was her husband, Tom Huff. She is survived by daughters, Chandelle Frakes, and husband Caleb, and grandsons Joshua and Jordan of Carl Junction, MO; and Jinger Wright, and husband Jerry, and granddaughters Mallory and Avery, of Marshfield, MO; and stepdaughters Stacey Huff and granddaughters Charity and Charlee of El Dorado Springs, MO; and Nikki Frame and grandchildren Hunter, Clayton, Brenlee, and Bailee of El Dorado Springs, MO; parents, Tom and Ruth Elliston, siblings, Mark Elliston, Glenda Elliston (Kenny Drake), and Cynthia Rice (Bill) and many other family members. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Butler High School Speech & Drama team does well at district competition

Congratulations to the Butler High School Speech & Drama team for placing 2nd in Readers Theater over the weekend at the District Competition!

Congratulations to Butler High School students Baylee Hudson and Madelyn Brakeville for advancing to finals at our Speech and Drama District competition!

Madelyn placed 6th in Storytelling, and Baylee placed 3rd in Dramatic Interpretation and 1st in Poetry and will be going to State!

Obituary - Addie Lou Grigsby

Addie L. Grigsby, age 83, a resident of rural Prescott, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Louisburg Healthcare & Rehab Center in Louisburg, Kansas. She was born May 1, 1938, in Springfield, Tennessee, the daughter of John Edward Woodard and Daisy Mae Crow Woodard. Addie graduated from the Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, Tennessee. 

She met Arthur N. Grigsby on a blind date in Nashville, Tennessee. Art and Addie were married on June 30, 1957, at the Stewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee. Addie was a devoted wife and mother. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior while talking with Cora Mae Collins at the Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Ft. Scott, Kansas. She was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Mound City, Kansas. Addie enjoyed refinishing furniture, gardening, canning, sewing and crocheting, as well as reading, singing and listening to music.

Survivors include her husband, Art, of the home; four children, Deborah Grigsby Lynch (Virgil) of Prescott, Kansas, Melissa Brown (Lynn), Ft. Scott, Kansas, Arthur N. Grigsby, Jr. (Kim), Prescott, Kansas and Tina Page (John), Cheyenne, Wyoming, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Becky Brady of Madison, Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by ten infant grandchildren; four sisters, Rose Meadows, Ruth MacArthur, Jeannie Copley and Doris Parks and two brothers, Burton and David Woodard.

There was cremation. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 A.M. Monday, March 7th at the U. S. National Cemetery in Ft. Scott. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 7th at the First Baptist Church of Mound City. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Obituary - Patricia Darlene Sanders

Patricia Sanders, 73, passed away on March 4, 2022, in Lenexa, KS. Close Family and friends will have a private service at a later date.

Patrica was born March 17, 1948. She grew up in the Waldo area as a child. Patty attended Southwest High School and resided in Peculiar, Missouri for 40 years. She retired from the IRS and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sons: Russell (Rebecca) Hammontree and Stephen (Cindy) Sanders; her three grandchildren: Cooper Hammontree, Ella Sanders, and Hanna Sanders; and her sister, Gail Ferrari
