Death Investigation In Vernon County

On 3-16-2022, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body being located in a field southeast of Nevada, MO. 

Vernon County Sheriff’s Office responded and Sheriff Mosher requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol DDCC to conduct the death investigation. 

Further information will be released as the investigation unfolds.

Obituary - Maria Carmen Morales

Maria del Carmen Morales Ibarra, 69, Harrisonville, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 11, 2022, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 12:00 PM at St. Sabina Catholic Church, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. 

Interment to follow at Orient Cemetery in Harrisonville, MO. Following services, the family will have a meal at Jose's Cafe, 900 N Commercial St, Harrisonville MO 64701 and would welcome those able to join them.

Maria was born July 16, 1952 in Mexico City, Mexico, a daughter of German and Trinidad (Bautista) Ibarra. She lived in Mexico City until moving to Hollywood, California in 1988 and then to Harrisonville, MO in 2002.

Maria was a homemaker. She loved taking care of her grandchildren, playing kitchen with them, and watching them play sports. She also loved traveling, the beach, cookouts, coffee, bread, traditional Mexican food, and cheese. Maria enjoyed watching television, including telenovela and crime documentaries. She also collected dolls. She loved their mandatory Sunday family dinners, gardening, which consisted of a variety of flowers and vegetables, and Mexican Bingo and her pet birds.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Trinidad and German Ibarra, one daughter, Yolanda Morales, and one son, Javier Morales, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Jose Javier Morales; her children: Belia Morales (Gerardo Paz), Laura Morales (Jose Becerril), Adrian Morales (Rosario), Mauricio Morales, Joanna Morales (Joseph Lavery), Javier Morales; her grandchildren, Carlos Morales, Crystal Becerril, Jayden Becerril, Javriel Becerril, Javier Morales, Joshua Morales, Adriann Morales, Ryan Morales, Gabriel Morales, Christian Morales, Ariadna Morales, Mauricio Morales, Isabelle Morales and Delilah Morales.

Rain chances increase tomorrow and Friday morning

Tomorrow will bring increasing chances for showers and t-storms, but also falling temperatures. Those temperatures may get cold enough for rain to changeover to a wintry mix across NE Kansas and NW Missouri early Friday morning. 

Any wintry mix will change back to rain as temps warm.


Obituary - Deanna Faye Hockett

Deanna Faye Hockett, 58, Butler, MO, formerly of Adrian, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Medicalodge of Butler in Butler, MO after a lengthy illness. 

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian, MO with visitation from 5:00-7:00. 

Deanna's wishes were to be cremated with inurnment at a later date in Scott Cemetery in Amsterdam, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Motor vehicle accident in Butler

The Butler Police Department along with the Butler Fire Department is on scene of a motor vehicle accident at the corner of Fulton and Dakoda Streets in Butler at this time.

A Century Link Telephone pole is said to be down in this area as a result of the accident. Please avoid this area!

All occupants in the vehicles were checked out on the scene by Bates County EMS and all refused further medical treatment.

Obituary - Donna Sue Cushing

Donna Sue Cushing, age 74, La Cygne, Kansas passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022. She was born on March 17, 1947 in Paola, Kansas the daughter of Fred and Edith Fort Harvey. She graduated from Parker High School.

Donna worked at different jobs during her working career, including, TriKo, bank teller, ran craft stores and a restaurant, and department manager at Wal Mart. She served on the Parker Library Board, Linn County Fair Board and EHU, and Linn County Tourism Committee. She was also a member of the Cadmus Grange.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, John Edward Harvey. Donna is survived by a son, Michael Cushing and wife Danielle, a daughter, Kelli Wolken and husband Jim, a sister, Janet Hetzer, and five grandchildren, Wesley, Bailey, Briley, Gavin and Teagan.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Monday, March 21, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, La Cygne Chapel. Burial in the Cadmus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm Sunday, March 20 at the La Cygne Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parker Library.
