Obituary - Clark Lewis Jr.
Clark Lewis, Jr., 95, of Clinton, Missouri passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, March 17, 2022 at his home. He was born April 21, 1926 in rural Calhoun, Mo., the only son of Lester Clark Lewis, Sr., and Sarah (Miller) Lewis.
He married Lois Arline Sell on March 5, 1945 after being high school sweethearts since age 16. They will forever be the original Clark and Lois. To this marriage of 77 years, Ronnie and Jeri Raye were born.
In 1945, age 20, Clark boarded the Navy’s USS Rixey, a U.S. hospital evacuation ship. He was an apprentice seaman 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class and then ranked 3rd Petty Officer as Coxswain. He piloted LCVP boats to shore to retrieve the wounded. Clark didn’t talk of war, but would share the experience of being on the Rixey as she rode the waves of a particular typhoon.
Stock car racing was popular and Clark was good at it. Driving his 1935 Ford stock, he raced in the area circuit, often placing in heats and occasionally taking the lap with the coveted checkered flag.
During the 1950’s, Clark was the Scoutmaster of his son’s scout troop, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 430. That remained a lifetime of funny and poignant stories of camporee and Osceola scout camp. He treasured that time with the boys. He was proud to be in the Tribe of Mic-o-say.
In 1988, he retired after 27 years as Manager of the paving operation at Williams Rock Company, Inc. He was perfection at calculating angles and dimensions and took pride in work done well; whether it was asphalt or building something special for a friend or family.
Retirement offered time for Clark and Lois to travel and spend more time at their lake house, which was a whole family gathering spot for many years.
Joining the First Baptist Church in 1955, Clark’s membership spanned 67 years. Ronnie and Jeri were always so proud of their Dad and the Christian life that he led. He was the same honest, kind, witty, decent person any day of the week. Everyone knew the same man. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1894, Clinton.
Clark frequently said how proud he was of his family, and it has grown to include five grandchildren, Kim Gannon, Shorewood, Illinois, Matthew Lewis (Marie), Avon, Indiana, Lindsay Chitwood Purtle (Brandon), Bolivar, Mo., Hudson Chitwood (Fernanda), Edenton, North Carolina, and Glory Chitwood, Seward, Alaska; and three great-granddaughters, Kenzie Lewis, Codie Lewis and Anika Purtle. With each addition to the family, a picture was added inside his wallet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and his son Ron Loren Lewis in 2011, a grief that was never ending until now.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., just prior to the funeral service. Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Englewood Cemetery. Military services at the grave under the direction of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1894, Clinton. The family suggests memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 430, Clinton or a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.

What a beautiful day outside today! We hope you’ve taken the time to get outside and enjoy the weather and maybe had a good bbq.
Today we received information from our partners in the cyber crimes. This has brought awareness of a planned large party this evening.
So to do our part we have invited all our deputies to participate in “Project Joe Schmoe” this evening. We will have over 15 additional deputies and support staff working the project with the purpose of combatting underage drinking, drug use and impaired driving. Additional jail staff and dispatchers have also been brought in to handle additional influx of customers to our facility if needed.
To the parents. Our goal is to prevent horrible tragedy and prevent us from knocking on your door to tell you your worst nightmare. To the parents that think it’s ok to host these parties we will work with the prosecutor to make sure those that put our community at risk are held accountable.
Know where your children are tonight. Know where they are every night and help us by having a conversations about making good choices. Don’t be mad when you get a call from us saying you need to pick up your son or daughter at the jail because of THIER decisions and actions. It’s far better than telling you your loved one is at the hospital or worst, the Coroner’s Office
So why are we announcing publicly that we plan to bust a large party and that we know where it is? Our community is best served by us preventing tragedy before it happens. Too often we are called after the fact and have to piece it together.
We want to work with the parents and the community to invest in our youth because a community’s Future lies within it’s youth.
