BCMH is currently seeking volunteers

BCMH is currently seeking volunteers who want to give back to the community! Holly Rabourn (pictured) gives four hours a week working in the Auxiliary Gift Shop, along with other fundraisers and events.

The perks of volunteering go beyond "something to do": in return for their service, our volunteers enjoy a free meal in the cafeteria and discounts on gift shop purchases and medical services at BCMH.

Obituary - Robert Eugene Smith

Robert (Robbie) Eugene Smith, 64, of Warsaw, MO passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Funeral Service will be on Monday, March 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Orient Cemetery.

He was born June 29, 1957 to Bobby Gene Smith and Nina Rosetta (Barnes) Smith in Kansas City, MO. He grew up in Cass County and attended Sherwood High School in Creighton, Missouri. After high school, Robbie joined the US Marine Corp. stationed in San Diego, California.

He later worked in Kansas City as supervisor over maintenance in a very large home rental company. Robbie was also very knowledgeable in auto mechanics and home construction, having many family and friends call him frequently to come help fix something, he was always glad to help.

After moving to Warsaw, Robbie enjoyed attending the Assembly of God Church in Warsaw, MO. He found a new life and had found happiness in church friends, family and his rekindled relationship with God.

Robbie had many interests, one of which was fishing, he spent many nights on the fishing banks. He loved playing guitar and singing, he was very good at it, playing from time to time in bands. Robbie loved getting together with family and just being with the ones he loved. He loved tinkering with broken video machines just to see if he could get them working, and he usually did.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy O'Connell. He is survived by daughters: Tonya (Ethan) Garcia of Mountain Home, Arkansas; and Brittany (Brian) Hoover of Adrian, MO; 2 granddaughters; Marissa and Grace Hoover; his siblings: Jonathan (Amy) Smith of Lincoln, MO; Debbie (Glen) McVay of Cleveland, MO; Kathy (Rick) VanNatta of Clinton, MO; Dee (Mark) Reimund of Lincoln, MO; Teresa (Bill) Thurman of Harrisonville, MO; and Susan (Brian) Templeton of Warsaw,MO; 9 nephews, 4 nieces; many other family and friends.


Busy week at the VCSO brings multiple vehicle pursuits

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office released information about multiple vehicle pursuits that took place throughout the week. According to officials, deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle early Tuesday morning near BB Highway and E Quail Road. The vehicle failed to stop, and deputies pursued the vehicle onto F Highway, where the driver lost control and slid into a ditch. The driver who has been identified as 32-year-old Stephen Romesburg of Nevada. No injuries were reported at the scene.

Romesburg’s was wanted on multiple warrants that included Driving While Revoked, Failure to Register Motor Vehicle, Delivery of Controlled Substance, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest. Romesburg was also wanted by Probation and Parole. He is currently being held at the Vernon County Jail without bond.

Late Wednesday night, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on Washington St in Nevada when he saw a driver that was a suspect in a theft that occurred earlier in the night. The vehicle failed to stop, and the deputy pursued the vehicle West of town where multiple other units responded to assist. 

Deputies pursued the vehicle until it took a wrong turn off 900 road and ended up in a muddy field. The driver then fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later by a deputy. 

The driver has been identified as 33-year-old Daniel Graham Jr of Nevada. Graham had an active warrant for Burglary, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Property Damage. Graham is currently being held at the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
 
A third pursuit was started early Friday morning when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle involving suspicious activity. The vehicle fled West of Nevada but due to the speeds and conditions of the road, the deputy terminated the pursuit. 

A vehicle matching the description was located later Friday morning abandoned near V Hwy and E Baily Road. Deputies were notified the vehicle had been reported stolen early Friday morning.

Obituary - Donald C. Gann

Donald C. Gann, 94, formerly of Urich, Missouri passed away at the Crown Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Harrisonville early Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. 

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. just prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Gann Cemetery, Conway, Mo.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, and these donations may be left in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.

Way to go Deputy Parscale

Linn County Kansas Sheriff's Deputy Kyler Parscale was in the classroom today to teach the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program to our young citizens. Great day at Parker Elementary.

The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program is a gun accident prevention program that seeks to help parents, law enforcement, community groups and educators navigate a topic paramount to our children’s safety. 

Eddie and his Wing Team are on a mission to help you teach Pre-K through 4th graders what to do if they ever come across a gun.

Obituary - Bethany Alayna Walker

Bethany Alayna Walker passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at KU Medical Center following a courageous battle with leukemia. Bethany was born July 29, 1991, to Randy and Lori (Heinold) Leedy.

On November 17, 2018, Bethany married Brandon Walker. Bethany and Brandon resided in El Dorado Springs with their fur baby Truman. They enjoyed spending as much time together as they could between weekend outings and time with family.

Bethany is from a close-knit family that enjoyed spending time together. Bethany was a proud aunt to three nieces who adored her. Bethany’s hobbies included tractor pulls, car shows, crocheting, and perfectly timed “dad jokes.” Bethany served as an El Dorado Springs first responder alongside her dad since 2019, when her health allowed.

Bethany is survived by her husband Brandon and dog Truman of the home, her parents, father-in-law Ralph Walker, sister Brittany Figaro (Patrick), sister Michaela Robertson (Kyle), brother-in-law Tavis Walker, nieces Alexandria, Olivia, and Eleanor Robertson, grandmothers Linda Leedy, Cheryel Griggs, and Laura Moore, great grandmother Nannie Fugate, along with aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by grandpas Edwin Heinold, Faylon Griggs, and Wayne Leedy. Great grandparents Sigle Fugate, Louis and Mildred Heinold, Bud Mitchem, Judy McCallister, and Merle and Rena Leedy.
