Multiple Thunderstorm Days Ahead

A period of active weather is upon us, with thunderstorm chances tonight and again on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. For tonight, we expect scattered storms to develop across southeastern Kansas and southwestern into central Missouri. 

A few of these storms may become strong to severe. Damaging winds and hail up to quarter size are possible.

Two from Appleton City injured in Bates County crash

On April 9th around 10:35 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle accident neat the intersection of CR SE 2576 and CR SE 15305 which is in rural Bates County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2003 Ford F-150 driven by 20 year old Dakota R. Bain of Appleton City, Missouri traveled through a intersection, struck a sign, fence and tree before coming to rest.

Mr. Bain along with a passenger in his vehicle 19 year old Michael R. Conner both sustained moderate injuries and both were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler for treatment.

Dakota R. Bain was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Careless and Imprudent Driving causing a crash 3.) No Seatbelt.

Obituary - Paul Edward Kottenbrock

Paul Edward Kottenbrock, age 78 of Raymore, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave. Belton, Missouri 64012. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the church following visitation. (Rosary will be at 9:45 a.m.)

Paul was born in Rogers, Arkansas on June 21, 1943 to Anton Kottenbrock and Mary Ellen (Roach) Kottenbrock. After graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Paul was joined in marriage with his wife Virginia Ann (Turpin) on October 9, 1964. This union was blessed with three children. Paul was a man of Catholic faith, for many years attending Lady of Lords in Harrisonville for 10 years. Paul and Ann moved to Pleasant Hill and attended Saint Bridget's for 7 years and recently became parishioners of St. Sabina Catholic Church after moving to the Foxwood Retirement Community. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul was a handy man who could fix anything from carpentry to cars. He very much enjoyed working on clocks, watches, and woodworking projects. Paul was proceeded in death by his parents, Anton and Mary Kottenbrock; and sister Edna DuVall.

Left to cherish Paul’s memory are his wife, Virginia Ann Kottenbrock; son, Tony Kottenbrock (Malay); two daughters, Kelly Haug (Roger) and Tracy Hampshire (Darin); brother Robert Anton Kottenbrock (Mary); three grandchildren, Rachael Ellen Haug (Michael), Julia Lauren Roberts (John), and Brandon Scott Hampshire (Leah); and five cousins, Kathy Beard (Michael), Mary Pauline Johnson ( Gary), Kris Larkey (Mike), Rob Kottenbrock, and Joyce DuVall (Jennifer).

Obituary - Donald Lee Beckemeyer

Donald Lee Beckemeyer passed from this life on Monday, April 4, 2022, surrounded by his closest friends and family.

Donald was born June 19, 1953, in St Louis, MO to Charles and Eleanor (Knorpp) Beckemeyer. Donald was the youngest of 6 children.

Donald grew up in the St. Louis area and moved to Nevada, MO in 1982. He enjoyed seeing numerous friends in the community and would smile and wave at everyone.

Those that knew Donald the best all state Donald's eyes held a sparkle and he always had such a pleasant smile. Donald's laugh was contagious.

Donald preferred being "on the go" and enjoyed sightseeing and window shopping. He especially loved eating ice cream and being outside.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

Adrian Prom is set for today Saturday, April 9th!!

Main Street: 3:00 Many students will meet on Main Street for pre-prom photos.
  • Promenade: 4:00 at the Adrian School HS Gym, students arrive 3:45
  • Prom: 7:30-10:30 Whiskey Mansion Ranch-Butler, MO
  • After Prom Party: Adrian Optimist Building. Doors will open at 11:00, all students must be there by 11:30 to attend. Will last until 3am.
The Adrian News Leader will be taking pictures on Main Street & at Promenade and Sydney Renee Photography will be taking prom photos at the venue this year.

Wednesday: Chance for damaging winds and hail with storms that develop.
