Obituary - Luke Scavuzzo


Luke Scavuzzo, 94, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 surrounded by love and family.

He is survived by his wife, Sissy Scavuzz of the home; a son, Luke A. Scavuzzo and wife Candace, Harrisonville, Missouri; two daughters, Nicola Clark and husband Bill, Harrisonville, Missouri. Lisa Cartee and husband Jack, Jefferson City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville with Military Honors.

Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville School Foundation.

Rollover accident in Cedar County injures Stockton man

On April 14th around 5:05 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cedar County along with Cedar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 32 Highway around 6 miles south of El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 36 year old Samuel M. Vanalst of Stockton, Missouri ran off the roadway and struck a embankment before overturning.

Mr. Vanalst sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs for treatment.

Arrest made in Belton after suspect removes handcuffs and attacks officer

On 4-12-2022, Belton officers arrested Leodie Jordan IV for domestic assault, a no bond probation violation warrant and warrants out of Grandview, Mo.

Jordan was transported to the Belton Jail without incident. However, when the officer removed Jordan's handcuffs, he began assaulting the officer. Other officers came to assist and control Jordan.

The officer was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. On 4-13-2022, the Cass County Prosecutor's Office charged Jordan with one count of 3rd Degree Domestic Assault (Class E Felony) and one count of 1st Degree Assault (Class A Felony) on a special victim (police officer). Jordan is now being held in the Cass County Jail on this NO BOND warrant.

Obituary - Russell Alexander Haston

Russell “Alex” Alexander Haston, age 29, passed away at home on Monday, April 11, 2022.

A celebration of Alex’s life will be held with a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2022 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083.

Alex was born in Dover, Delaware on September 15, 1992 to Russell Steven Haston and Aileen (O’Malley). Alex graduated from Ray-Pec High School in the spring of 2011. In life Alex had an eye and appreciation for abstract art. Over the years he has painted many pieces of which many people have admired. He worked for many years in the food service industry, making many friends.

Alex was preceded in death by his paternal great grandparents, James and Aggie Haston; paternal grandfather, Jerry Haston; and maternal grandfather, William Norman O’Malley.

Left to cherish Alex’s memory is his mother, Aileen Isaacs (David); father, Russell Steven Haston; sister, Brittni Newman (Josh); niece, Kinsley Newman; paternal grandmother, Dianna Harris; maternal grandmother, Janet Clifton; maternal grandmother, Lana Haston; cat, Thor; and many other friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Salvation Army ARC, 1351 E. 10th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64106.

Fallen-Not Forgotten event in Harrisonville

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, the Harrisonville Police Department will remember and honor the lives of two local officers killed in the line of duty, Donald Marler and Francis Wirt, as well as one civilian, Orville Allen, marking 50 years since their passing.

“Fallen, Not Forgotten” is the theme of the remembrance and the park rededication is planned for 5 p.m. in Marler-Wirt-Allen Park at the corner of Mechanic and Independence Streets.

The public is invited to attend the park rededication.

The families and invited guests will gather locally for a private ceremony following the park rededication
