Obituary - Elaine Gunnels

Elaine Gunnels, 85, Archie, MO, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian, MO. 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisonville. Contributions may be made to the church.

Updated Obituary - Luke Scavuzzo

Luke Scavuzzo, 94, Harrisonville, Missouri departed this life on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 with loving family at his side. Luke was most proud of two things, his family and his community.

He married Gwendolyn “Sissy” Hendryx on August 15, 1948. They never turned down an opportunity to dance. He is survived by his wife; daughter Nicola Clark and husband Bill, Harrisonville, Missouri; son, Luke A. Scavuzzo and wife Candace, Harrisonville, Missouri; daughter Lisa Cartee and husband Jack, Jefferson City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many other dear relatives. He treasured traveling with his family and would do nearly anything to make them laugh.

Luke valued serving his country and his community. He served in the Navy from 1946 - 1948. After graduating from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO, he owned and operated Scavuzzo’s Grocery with his four brothers, Cosmo, Tony, Salvatore and Joe. It was originally opened by Luke’s father, Santo (Charlie) and uncle, Sam. The grocery store was a fixture in the community for 77 years. Luke also had two sisters Ida and Faustina. All of his siblings preceded him in death.

Luke was a member of the Kiwanis Club, served on city council, was a volunteer fireman for Harrisonville Volunteer Fire Department and was the first assistant football coach for the Harrisonville High School football program. As a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Harrisonville, Luke was a charter member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Knights of Columbus. He was also inducted into the Missouri Valley Football Hall of Fame and Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame as well as Harrisonville Football Hall of Fame and was a Harrisonville Wall of Fame honoree in 2010. Luke loved Harrisonville and the Wildcats and could be seen often cheering them on at various sporting events.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville with Military Honors.

Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisonville School Foundation.

Nevada City Hall and other City offices will be closed on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 for employee training. All City departments will re-open on Thursday April 28, 2022.

Latrisha "Trisha" Renee Blakey, 40, of Harrisonville, MO passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Cass Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. 

Funeral Service will be on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, Missouri. 

Interment will follow in Orient Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Harrisonville High School SPED Department.

Pavement Sealing Work Planned in St. Clair, Henry and Hickory Counties

Pavement Sealing Work Planned in #StClair, #Henry & #HickoryCo Beginning Week of April 18th.

Drivers should expect one lane traffic, flaggers and pilot cars where contractor crews are sealing various routes in St. Clair, Henry and Hickory counties with a mixture of rock and oil beginning the week of April 18th.

Contractor crews will remove the current driving surface on these routes, replacing it with a new surface with improved texture.

Here is the anticipated schedule and the routes impacted:
• April 19-20 – St. Clair County Route HH between
Northeast 971 And Route C east of #LowryCity
• April 20-28 – St. Clair County Route V between Missouri
Route 13 and U.S. Route 54 south of #Osceola
• April 28-May 2 – St. Clair County Route MM between
Southeast 1151 and U.S. Route 54 west of #Weaubleau
• May 3-5 – Hickory County Route RB between Missouri
Route 83 and Lightfoot Park east of #Flemington
• May 10-16 – Hickory County Route VV between Route P
east of #CrossTimbers and Missouri Route 7 in #BentonCo
• May 18-16 – Henry County Route P between Missouri
Route 18 and Southwest 350 north of #Montrose

Traffic Impacts:
• Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews
are working
• Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed
when traveling over recently-sealed sections of highways
• No signed detours
• Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the
work zone
• Drivers are urged to look for alternate routes

Drivers will encounter flaggers and pilot cars directing them through the work zones. 

Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zones or before entering the work zones from a side road.

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.
