Oath of office taken at Butler City Council Meeting

Last night at the City of Butler Council meeting Councilman Denny Rich and Councilwomen Doncella Liggins, Becky Randalls and Carmen Behringer took the oath of office. Congratulations to them all on their election wins.






















Also Butler Mayor Henry took the oath of office for his second term as mayor.

Obituary - Mary Elizabeth West

Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) West, age 74, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born on December 30, 1947 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Mary was baptized on August 29, 1960 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the First Christian Church. 

She was united in marriage to Bobby Ray West in Abilene, Texas on July 25, 1964. Bobby then finished serving in the United States Air Force and they moved to Brevard, North Carolina. She helped Bobby with raising their three children and building their sporting goods store. In 1982 they moved to Lincoln, Missouri. Mary helped raise turkeys for thirteen years and then chickens eggs for ten years as well as other farm chores. She loved to farm, flower gardening, vegetable farming and fishing.

She is survived by her beloved husband Bobby R. West, of the home, a daughter, Tammy Elizabeth Fischer and her husband Fredrick, of Stover, Missouri, two sons; Tye Ron West, of Florence, Missouri and Tab Ray West, and his wife Pamela, of Versailles, Missouri, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Elizabeth Brawner Taylor, her father Jessie E. Taylor, two sisters; Wanda Louis Carrol and Joyce Lee Burks, a brother, Jessie LeRoy Taylor and a granddaughter, Dawn Elizabeth Fischer.

Arrangements for her cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home 101 W. Main Street Warsaw, Missouri.

Obituary - Doris Jean Hill

Doris Jean Hill, age 73, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. A memorial service for Doris will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at 803 Augusta St in Clinton, Missouri, dishes are welcome.

Doris Jean Hill was born on June 1, 1948 to Raymond and Jesse (Moore) Hill. Doris always loved to have fun and she lit up the room when she walked in. Doris went to Bevs School of Beauty in Clinton to learn how to do hair, Doris loved to do hair! Doris loved to dance, she loved country music. Doris will be missed dearly.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; Raymond “Jack” Hill and Jessie Irene Hill, her sister, Wanda Hill and her brothers, Terry Hill and Ronnie “Big Time” Hill.

Survivors include her daughter, Theresa (Bud) Dempsey, her son, Larry Crowell, her sister, Carol (Dale) Felton, granddaughters; Madison Price, Kelsey Hill, Kenzey (Michael) Witherspoon, Allison Turner, Alexus Turner and 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

News from the Clinton School District

The Clinton School District is pleased to announce that Jenny Corson and Dr. Rob Anthony have been selected as the next administrative team at Clinton High School. Mrs. Corson will serve as the high school principal, and Dr. Anthony as the high school assistant principal beginning in the 22-23 school year.

Mrs. Corson and Dr. Anthony currently serve as the principal and assistant principal at Clinton Middle School. They have been educators for a combined total of 35 years, and between them have 13 years of school leadership experience. Their proven leadership and teamwork made them a perfect fit for the administrative openings at Clinton High School. “Mrs. Corson and Dr. Anthony work great together and have developed into a strong administrative team that desires high levels of success for all students of the Clinton School District. I am excited to see what outstanding goals they will set and accomplish at Clinton High School,“ says, Brian Wishard, Assistant Superintendent.

Mrs. Corson is looking forward to continuing her work in the Clinton School District, "I am extremely thrilled and honored to be selected as the next lead learner at Clinton High School! The Clinton community has been wonderful in welcoming me this past year as the principal of Clinton Middle School and I am truly blessed to be a part of the Cardinal family. I look forward to a smooth transition from CMS to CHS to continue the shared values, traditions, and pride within the district. Having the opportunity to lead and learn at Clinton High School with talented, hardworking educators that go above and beyond for kids is exciting for me, both professionally and personally. My goals for all students is to achieve at high levels, feel that they are valued and part of the school community, and are exposed to a variety of opportunities that will help them succeed in whatever they choose to pursue after high school. Dr. Rob Anthony says, “I am excited to have the opportunity to continue serving the community at CHS. I have already established many great relationships with a number of the high school students when they were at CMS, and I look forward to helping them further move into adulthood.”

Obituary - Ashtin Robert Dorman

Ashtin Robert Dorman, 21, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2022 at his home in Nevada, MO. Ashtin was born March 11, 2001 in Springhill, FL to Laverne I. and Ruth A. (Maxson) Dorman.

Ashtin grew up in Hudson, FL and came to Nevada in August of 2009. Ashtin worked at Casey’s Convenience Store on Osage for several years, and later for a time at Pete’s Convenience Store. He had a love of animals and children and enjoyed puppy sitting as well as child care and babysitting. Ashtin was involved in children’s ministries at Pine Street Baptist Church. On his 18th birthday he went on a mission trip to see Noah’s Ark in Kentucky. Known for his sense of humor and his big heart, he also loved watching movies, animals, spending time with his family and friends, and being helpful and caring to others.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Ann Dorman, Nevada; brothers and sisters, Cindy Dorman, Bobby Dorman, Pam Boatwright, Cheryl Dorman, Chandler Dorman, and Gabriel Dorman, all of Nevada; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; grandmother, Ruth Maxon; and his uncle, Frank Maxon.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Travis Cole officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Obituary - Coty Lee Nichols

Coty Lee Nichols, 31, of Freeman, MO passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022 in Lawrence, KS.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm at Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville, MO.

Obituary - James Melvin Rapp

Funeral services for Mr. Rapp will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at Prairie City, Missouri on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.

Visitation will be held at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Officiating at the service is Rev. Jerry Smith. Interment  will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Prairie City, Missouri.

The family request any Memorial donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Zion Lutheran School.

James Melvin Rapp was born on September 4, 1932, the son of John Nicholas and Frida Louise (Bracher) Rapp and he passed away peacefully at the Appleton City Manor in Appleton City, Missouri on April 17, 2022. James grew up in the Rockville area, where he graduated from Rockville High School in 1950. Shortly after graduation, he married Vanita Anna Holsten on June 12, 1955, his wife of 66 years. To this union 7 children were born: Mark, Veronica, Jeanette, Loretta, Michael, Brenda, and Marcella.

James began a lifelong career in farming along with spending 7 years employed at the Prairie City Cheese Factory. He also served as the volunteer chairman of the rural water board for more than 30 years. Apart from this, his family was the most important thing in his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. James dearly enjoyed life, a good laugh, and times spent with those he loved. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially hunting deer. Apart from this, he was a dedicated, life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he volunteered regularly at many tasks. He will be deeply missed by his many family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, John Nicholas and Frida Louise (Bracher) Rapp; one son, Mark Rapp; a brother, Eldo Rapp; son-in-law Bob Lisenby; two sisters-in-law: Irene Rapp and DeLeah Holsten; and one nephew, David Holsten.

He is survived by his wife, Vanita; children: Veronica (Ron) Feilner, Jeanette Lisenby, Loretta (Rod) Percy, Michael (Tammy) Rapp, Brenda (Terry) Strope, Marcella (Bill) Peck, and one daughter-in-law, Barb Rapp; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; along with many extended family and good friends, who will miss him dearly.
