Obituary - Thomas Leslie Boyles

Thomas Leslie Boyles, age 58, Foster, Missouri passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on July 19, 1963 the son of Ronnie and Connie Harkness Boyles. He graduated from Rich Hill High School. 

He then attended Missouri Southern University receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He was united in marriage to Gayla Hester on January 19, 1985. Tom was a talented cabinet maker. 

He also worked as a deputy for the Bates County Sheriff's Department, ran Ronnie's Gun Shop and raised cattle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and playing a good joke on someone. He loved his family and was proud to be "Poppy" and "Grandy" to his three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie, paternal grandparents, Leland and Ora Boyles and maternal grandmother, Lucille Ashley Ewing. 

Tom is survived by his wife, Gayla, son Cody Boyles (Felisha), daughter, Lisa Boyles (Kaleb), a sister Vikki Howard, and three grandchildren, Reese, Hadley and Coy, His mother Connie.

Visitation will be held from 3:30 pm to 6 pm Friday, April 22, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Graveside service will be 6:30 pm Friday, April 22 at the Salem Cemetery, Foster, Missouri.

Obituary - Warden “Jack” Pate, Jr.

Warden “Jack” Pate, Jr., 65, Nevada, MO passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin. Jack was born July 31, 1956, in Tyler, MS to Warden J. and Laura L. (Cartwright) Pate. He was united in marriage to Karen Lynnette Burdick on September 30, 1979, in Nevada and she survives of the home.

At a young age, Jack came to Nevada along with his family. He attended school in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1974. Following high school Jack served in the United States Navy until his retirement after 23 years of service. Jack had a love for western movies and western books and was a Raiders Football Fan. He also loved to cook and spend time with his family. He will be missed.

In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by three children, Joshua Pate (Andrea), West Monrow, LA, Daniel (Vanessa Thin) Pate, Columbus, KS, and Rebecca Fields, Nevada; eight grandchildren, Tyler Fields, Katelyn Fields, Mohave Pate, Cameron Pate, Nova Pate, Tessa Pate, Isaiah Pate, and Caspian Pate; and one sister, Nettie Chadd, Milo, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eddie Joe Pate.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Ft. Scott National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.

Oath of office taken at Butler City Council Meeting

Last night at the City of Butler Council meeting Councilman Denny Rich and Councilwomen Doncella Liggins, Becky Randalls and Carmen Behringer took the oath of office. Congratulations to them all on their election wins.






















Also Butler Mayor Henry took the oath of office for his second term as mayor.

Obituary - Mary Elizabeth West

Mary Elizabeth (Taylor) West, age 74, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born on December 30, 1947 in Texarkana, Arkansas. Mary was baptized on August 29, 1960 in Guthrie, Oklahoma at the First Christian Church. 

She was united in marriage to Bobby Ray West in Abilene, Texas on July 25, 1964. Bobby then finished serving in the United States Air Force and they moved to Brevard, North Carolina. She helped Bobby with raising their three children and building their sporting goods store. In 1982 they moved to Lincoln, Missouri. Mary helped raise turkeys for thirteen years and then chickens eggs for ten years as well as other farm chores. She loved to farm, flower gardening, vegetable farming and fishing.

She is survived by her beloved husband Bobby R. West, of the home, a daughter, Tammy Elizabeth Fischer and her husband Fredrick, of Stover, Missouri, two sons; Tye Ron West, of Florence, Missouri and Tab Ray West, and his wife Pamela, of Versailles, Missouri, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Elizabeth Brawner Taylor, her father Jessie E. Taylor, two sisters; Wanda Louis Carrol and Joyce Lee Burks, a brother, Jessie LeRoy Taylor and a granddaughter, Dawn Elizabeth Fischer.

Arrangements for her cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home 101 W. Main Street Warsaw, Missouri.

Obituary - Doris Jean Hill

Doris Jean Hill, age 73, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri. A memorial service for Doris will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri. Following the service there will be a gathering of family and friends at 803 Augusta St in Clinton, Missouri, dishes are welcome.

Doris Jean Hill was born on June 1, 1948 to Raymond and Jesse (Moore) Hill. Doris always loved to have fun and she lit up the room when she walked in. Doris went to Bevs School of Beauty in Clinton to learn how to do hair, Doris loved to do hair! Doris loved to dance, she loved country music. Doris will be missed dearly.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents; Raymond “Jack” Hill and Jessie Irene Hill, her sister, Wanda Hill and her brothers, Terry Hill and Ronnie “Big Time” Hill.

Survivors include her daughter, Theresa (Bud) Dempsey, her son, Larry Crowell, her sister, Carol (Dale) Felton, granddaughters; Madison Price, Kelsey Hill, Kenzey (Michael) Witherspoon, Allison Turner, Alexus Turner and 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

News from the Clinton School District

The Clinton School District is pleased to announce that Jenny Corson and Dr. Rob Anthony have been selected as the next administrative team at Clinton High School. Mrs. Corson will serve as the high school principal, and Dr. Anthony as the high school assistant principal beginning in the 22-23 school year.

Mrs. Corson and Dr. Anthony currently serve as the principal and assistant principal at Clinton Middle School. They have been educators for a combined total of 35 years, and between them have 13 years of school leadership experience. Their proven leadership and teamwork made them a perfect fit for the administrative openings at Clinton High School. “Mrs. Corson and Dr. Anthony work great together and have developed into a strong administrative team that desires high levels of success for all students of the Clinton School District. I am excited to see what outstanding goals they will set and accomplish at Clinton High School,“ says, Brian Wishard, Assistant Superintendent.

Mrs. Corson is looking forward to continuing her work in the Clinton School District, "I am extremely thrilled and honored to be selected as the next lead learner at Clinton High School! The Clinton community has been wonderful in welcoming me this past year as the principal of Clinton Middle School and I am truly blessed to be a part of the Cardinal family. I look forward to a smooth transition from CMS to CHS to continue the shared values, traditions, and pride within the district. Having the opportunity to lead and learn at Clinton High School with talented, hardworking educators that go above and beyond for kids is exciting for me, both professionally and personally. My goals for all students is to achieve at high levels, feel that they are valued and part of the school community, and are exposed to a variety of opportunities that will help them succeed in whatever they choose to pursue after high school. I cannot wait to get started.”
