The week ahead weather wise

It will be cooler today, though actually closer to normal, with breezy west to northwest winds. 

The weather will continue to be cooler to start the week with slightly below normal temperatures and mostly clear skies. But for the end of the week there will be a chance for showers and storms each day.

I want to start out by apologizing to you fans and to the Tuner class for the Sharp mini late models not being with us last night. Not sure what exactly happened, so all I can say is I’m sorry and promise to not let that happen again.

 
Night two in the books, and we had more exciting racing all night long! Congratulations to our winners! Leroy Morrison in Pure Stock, Carter Brownsberger in Midwest Mods, Ed Griggs in Stock Cars, Devin Irvin in Super Stock, and Tyler Cadwallader in Bmod. I personally didn’t get to see a whole lot of it, but I’ve heard you guys put on some awesome racing all night long.

 
Mike and I have been in discussion about some things for you drivers. One thing we’ve said from the start is that as we grow and you guys and gals continue to show up with good numbers we would reward your purse. 

So here is what we’re going to do, any class with 15 or more cars will be rewarded with added money through the field. 15-20 cars in your class we’ll add $300 to the purse. Over 20 and we’ll add $500. This money will be spread out from second place back through the field. We understand it costs more to do this today than it did a few years ago, as it affects us as well. 

We will at some point however have to evaluate some things if we continue to only get 3 cars in a class. We’re not sure what that looks like at this point, and nothing is currently going to change. We hope this incentive will continue to help grow the field in each class.

 
Something that has been brought to my attention, we do NOT allow coolers in the stands. We have the tailgate section set up for you guys to bring coolers, grills, whatever you’d like with the exception of hard liquor. I know this is different from before, but keep in mind, we are a different facility and a different staff from before. We thank you for your patience and understanding with this as we go forward.

 
Next up on the schedule is Back the Blue night! We will have all 6 classes back in action this week, with added money for the USRA Stock Cars. USRA Stock Cars and Bmods, POWRi Super Stock, Midwest Mod and Pure Stock and the FWD Tuners. This Friday night we will salute the men and women that put their life on the line daily here in our hometowns! Any law officer showing proper ID at the gate will receive free admission this coming Friday!

 
Again, Mike and I thank you for your patience and support. We will continue to strive to improve things we see need done week to week. We also appreciate and take your suggestions into account to make this place the best we possibly can. Without you drivers and fans none of this would be possible. We appreciate each and everyone of you more than you know!

Estimated timing for T-Storms tonight

Estimated timing as a line of thunderstorms moves eastwards tonight. Strong winds will be the primary threat, but hail up to about an inch will be possible as well. Overall tornado threat remains low, but a brief spin-up or two can't be ruled out.

Adrian Optimist Club Students of the Month

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”

The Adrian Student of the Month for March is Delana Miner, a Senior. Delana is the daughter of Landon and Angela Miner. In school she works in NHS, Yearbook, Cheer, and Volleyball. Out of school she is in club volleyball and volunteering at church. Delana states, “Work hard in silence, let success be your noise.” Delana plans to attend Longview Community College then go somewhere for a degree in Secondary Education to be a 2nd grade teacher.

The Miami Student of the Month is Danny Embrey, senior, son of Serenity and Dan Embrey. His school activities include: President of FCCLA, Class President, NHS President, STUCO, A+ Peer Tudor, and Scholar Bowl. Outside of school he is in students in training of Academia, Health, and Research HOSH. Danny has set a high goal for himself as he plans to study medicine to become a doctor. It has always been his choice to be determined for a career goal and he cannot wait to see his future and how it will develop. His plans include general education at MCC, Longview and then transfer to UMKC for med school.

The Ballard Student of the Month is Lindy Gunter, a Sophomore. Lindy is the daughter of Sarah and Brett Bogart. At school, Lindy enjoys being a member of Scholar Bowl, Envirothon, and the Soils team for FFA. She was willing to join the Soils team even though she knew little about the subject. 

She and her team worked hard and succeeded to be able to compete at the state level. After graduation, Lindy is planning to attend UCM to work toward a career in the medical field. Lindy’s favorite quote is “Some ladies play hard to get, I play hard to understand.” The Ballard staff has said: “Lindy is always respectful and cooperative with both her peers, teachers, and staff. She works hard and is willing to improve and is also willing to try new things.” Lindy stepped up and gave a speech in public this year, which was a huge accomplishment for her. She is a kind and caring individual.

Obituary - Shirley E. Ellis

Shirley E. Ellis, age 75, of Belton, Missouri passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas 66210 on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Shirley was born in Overland Park, Kansas on June 23, 1946 to Leonard M. Ellis and Mary D. (Clark) Ellis. Shirley graduated high school and pursued her passion of horsemanship. She owned her own ranch, and shared her passion by teaching 4H and Boy Scouts about horses and their care. Shirley was an amazing artist. More than anything, Shirley loved spending time in the outdoors, working, hunting, and fishing. She cared deeply for nature and all animals.

While Shirley was a hard-working rancher, she had a selfless and gentle soul. She had no children of her own, but she was a constant friend to all of her nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Mary Ellis; sister, Josephine Ellis; and brother, Leonard C. Ellis.

She is survived by her three sisters, Betty Hovious of Belle Plaine, Iowa, Nancy Gifford of Bucyrus, Kansas, and Barbara Mettlen of Sylvan Grove, Kansas; as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
