Obituary - Janet Lee Setzer

Janet Lee Setzer, age 65, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

Service times will be provided as more information becomes available.

Janet was born in Augsburg, Germany on March 16, 1957 to Stanley Wood and Mary Anna (Oskin) Wood. After graduating high school, Janet entered the work force while continuing her education. 

For many years she worked in accounting for a pharmaceutical company. In life, Janet loved listening to music (especially Journey and Lynyrd Skynyrd), gardening, her dogs and cats, water skiing, and watching sappy Lifetime movies.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mary Anna Wood; father of her children, Dale Setzer; sister, Linda Baker; and brother Buck Wood.

She is survived by her four children, Nicklaus Setzer (Sarah), Zachary Setzer (Alexandra), Ashely Setzer, and Skylar Setzer; brother, Robert Wood; sister, Patricia Wood; and four grandchildren, Ryann, Rylee, Rowdy, and Kaysen.

Obituary - Nancy A. Allen

Nancy A. Allen, age 62, of Clinton, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Clinton Healthcare and Rehab Center in Clinton, Missouri. Nancy's wishes were to be cremated. A private family service will be held at a later date.

On April 19, 2022 Nancy Allen was taken home to be with loved ones that passed before her. She was born on January 10, 1960 in Clinton, Missouri to Alva Allen, Jr. and Mary Crosswhite and lived most of her life in Henry County. She owned her own successful small business which she took over after her father passed and was an advocate for animals of all kinds.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alva, Jr.

Nancy leaves behind her mother, Mary Crosswhite, a sister, Sandra DeLapp of Lee’s Summit, MO and a brother, Alva Allen, III of Clinton, Missouri. Nancy had 2 niece and 3 nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews all of whom loved and treasured her generous nature and great wit tremendously. Nancy had a very large extended family as well and enjoyed the many hours spent with uncles, aunts and cousins at family gatherings. Although a very private person, she also leaves behind many lifelong close friends and neighbors in Missouri and across the country.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Terry William Keyte

Terry William Keyte, 66, of Clinton, Missouri passed away Friday morning, April 22, 2022 at his home. He was born January 30, 1956 in Windsor, Mo., the son of Robert William Keyte and Vivian Nell (Mather) Keyte.
He married Debbie Lea Stewart and they spent 46 years together. She survives of the home. Terry was a truck driver for Hilty Quarries and Ed Schmidli Trucking for several years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, going to the boats, playing the slots, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Mike Stewart of the home and Tony Keyte (Kerri), Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter, Tracy Keyte of the home; three grandchildren, Vivian Grace Keyte, Benjamin Robert Keyte and Matthew Hunter Keyte; one brother, Barry Keyte (Ethel), Tightwad, Mo.; two sisters, Rita Stevson (Rich), Roseland, Mo., and Becky Kaiser (David), Warsaw, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and his fur babies, Sadie Marie and Molly Mae. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Robert Keyte, Carey Keyte and Gary Keyte. Arrangements are pending under the direction of the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton.

Obituary - Lavern J. Cole

Lavern J. Cole, age 81, passed away on April 12, 2022, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

Lavern was born in Paola, Kansas on August 07, 1940, to Vernon Levi Smothers and Rowena (Tenry) Smothers. She graduated from Osawatomie Kansas High School in 1958.

Lavern married Robert Cole, on June 27, 1961, in Vernon County, MO. Lavern worked as a Residential Housekeeper for most of her life. She was a military spouse, a loving mother and grandmother. She was a great cook and loved fishing.

Lavern is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Roy) Jones, of Franklin, NC, her son, Darrell (Lillian) Cole, of Montrose, MO; grandchildren, Andrew Cole, of Adrian, MO, Lori Beth Schmit, of Franklin, NC, and Beverly (Daryl) Rundel, of Hillsboro, MO; great grandchildren, Karli Rundel, of Imperial, MO, Austin Rundel, of Hillsboro, MO, Dakota Schmit, of Franklin, NC, and Emily Schmit, of Franklin, NC; sister Carolee O’Brien, and brother-in-law, Joe Graves.

She was preceded by her parents, Vernon Levi and Rowena Smothers; her husband, Robert Cole, significant other Paul Roberts; brothers, Vernon Cole, and Ronald Cole, sister, JoAnn Graves.

Power outages reported in the Taberville and Rockville area

Our power provider, KAMO Power, is currently experiencing an issue in the Taberville Substation causing an outage for members in the the Taberville and Rockville area. 

Crews are working on the issue and will restore power as quickly as possible.

Kansas City woman arrested in Bates County

On April 23rd around 6:39 p.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 45 year old Damecca D. Shepherd of Kansas City, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Driving While Intoxicated 2.) Driving While Suspended 3.) Speeding.

Damecca D. Shepherd was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and she was later released.

Butler man arrested on warrants

On April 23rd around 9:44 p.m. the Bates County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Curtis D. Lewis of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Lewis was arrested for 3 warrants out of the Bates County Sheriff's Office which we have listed below:

1.) Resisting/Interfering with an arrest for a felony - No bond
2.) Burglary - $2,500 cash/surety
3.) Operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner - $150 cash only bond.

Curtis D. Lewis was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.
