Obituary - Joanna Jane Swan

Joanna Jane (Hickman) Swan, 93, Nevada, MO passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Lake Stockton Healthcare in Stockton, MO. Janie was born November 27, 1928 in Sheldon, MO to Clyde W. and Louise (Tyree) Hickman. She was united in marriage to Gordon W. Swan, Sr. on November 11, 1949 in Nevada, MO and he preceded her in death on March 20, 2014.

Janie grew up in Nevada graduated from Nevada High School Class of 1947. She worked for a time for the telephone company, then at Farm and Home Savings in Nevada. Following her marriage to Gordon the couple moved to Independence, MO.

In addition to her husband Gordon, she was preceded in death by her son Gordon Swan, Jr. (Chip); her parents; four brothers, Halbert, Hubert, Doug, and Mark; five sisters, Sharon, Maxine, Leta Mae, Martha Lou, and Ginger.

Janie is survived by sister, Shirley Cooper, Wichita KS, brother, Bill Hickman (Argie), Deerfield, MO; and daughter-in-law, Kari Swan, Fisher, IN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Newton Burial Park in Nevada, MO with Pastor Bill Platt officiating. Friends may call from now until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home.

Obituary - Wanda Jean Alexander

There will be a graveside memorial service for Wanda beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Taberville Cemetery in Taberville, Missouri. Officiant will be Jerry Johannigmeier.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Appleton City Library or Taberville Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.

Wanda Jean Alexander, daughter of James Buel and Bessie Pearl (Jones) Walker, was born July 28, 1929 in her grandmother’s home just west of Louisburg, Missouri. She departed this life May 12, 2022 at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City, Missouri at 92 years of age.

Wanda attended grades 1-7 in Atherton, Missouri, grades 8 and 9 in Polk, Missouri, graduating from Archie High School in 1947. She then attended Central Missouri State College at Warrensburg, Missouri graduating with her teaching credentials in 1951. Wanda was united in marriage to Bill Alexander on December 22, 1951 in Buffalo, South Dakota and to this union four children were born.

She taught school one year in South Dakota, then 3 years in Cass County, Missouri. She moved to Appleton City in 1988 where she spent the rest of her career at Appleton City Elementary School retiring in 1994.

Wanda enjoyed quilting and travelling. She was an accomplished artist painting and drawing in many mediums. She also loved reading, researching history and reading historical books. She had researched extensively and written her family history sharing her work with family members. She donated many hours recording cemetery records for St. Clair County and cataloging the county death records.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Vernon Walker and his wife Kay and ex-husband Bill Alexander. Survivors include her children, Gayle Alexander of Butler, Missouri, Nancy Conard (Tim) of Pierce City, Missouri, Sandra Cline (Gayle) of Carthage, Missouri, William Guy Alexander (Teresa Saylor) of Cape Fair, Missouri; grandchildren: Sean O’Farrell (Katrina), Megan Franks (David) and Jake Eye (Sarah); step-grandson Mike Cline; great-grandchildren: Alexis O’Farrell, Kaylee O’Farrell, Addilyn Eye, Corbin Eye, Ella Franks and Ava Franks; and many nieces and nephews.

Obituary - Jessica Dawn Foster

Jessica Dawn Foster, 41, Bronaugh, MO passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at her home in Bronaugh. Jessica was born January 10, 1981 in Nevada, MO to Jimmy R. and Cathlene R. (Cassidy) Gransbury. She married Jon E. Foster on June 14, 2007 in Bronaugh and he survives of the home.

Jessica was raised in Bronaugh and graduated form Bronaugh High School in 2000. She was currently employed at Joe Clark’s Residential Care Home in Nevada as a caregiver. Jessica enjoyed reading, crocheting, listening to K-Love Radio, and loved being with her family, especially her children. She was a member of the Christian Church in Liberal, MO.

In addition to her husband, Jon, she is survived by one son, Bradley, and two daughters, Sierra and Kaitlyn, all of the home; her parents, Jimmy and Cathy Gransbury, also of the Bronaugh, sister, Janette Potter (Jerry), Bronaugh; brother, James L. Gransbury, St. Roberts, MO; mother and father-in-law, Doug and Linda Knight, Lamar; sister-in-law, Jenny Medlin, Lamar; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Worsley Cemetery in Bronaugh with Pastor Scott Grey officiating.

Memorials are suggested to a fund for her children (make checks payable to “Foster Memorial Fund”) c/o Ferry Funeral Home.
