Obituary - Don Wesley Brown

Pastor Don Wesley Brown, age 61, transitioned to glory on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the Benson Center in Clinton, Missouri. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 AM also at the Benson Center prior to the service. Burial to follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made to Save Our World Ministries or Seasons of Service and can be left in care of the funeral home.

He was born on October 15, 1960, in Clinton, Missouri to Anna Pearl and Denver Brown. Pastor Brown was the youngest of ten children, the uncle of eight, the great uncle of fourteen, and a cousin and friend to many.

Pastor Brown was a graduate of Clinton High School Class of 1979 where he was a great athlete who excelled in both football and track. You can still find his mark of success in the halls of Clinton High School with his shot-put record.

He later went on to further his education at William Jewell College where he also set the mark and holds the record for shot put. Pastor Brown went on to graduate in 1984 with his degree in Physical Education. He then moved on to work for Sprint and was promoted to the Human Resources Department, until God called him to the ministry.

Moreover, his unfailing love for his family kept him going. He took his great nephew Quinton in, and raised him as his own. As a pillar in the Brown family, he extended his love, wisdom, and support; leaving a blueprint of success for them all to follow.

As a man of God, Pastor Brown wore multiple hats in his walk such as Sunday School Secretary, Superintendent, and Teacher. He served as a member of the Antioch Cemetery Board. He actively advanced the Kingdom of God in the roles of Choir Director, Deacon, and Pastorship. His love for people and the community can be found in every ministerial role he held.

Pastor Brown was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church. A former Pastor of Solid Rock Church where he implemented collective ministry moments such as Friday Night Fire in effort to cross cultural lines and bring unity. Pastor Brown later established his own ministry, Save Our World Ministries, also known as S.O.W. Through this ministry he continued to outreach and build the community, all while being brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

Pastor Brown is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his brother Harold Brown and his sister Mary Williams. He leaves to honor his legacy his siblings: Beverly Moore, Stanley Brown, Keith Brown (Idella), Debra Hall (Kenneth), Vicki Jackson, Linda Brown, and Valerie Brown. Alongside his nieces and nephews: Lezlee, Brian, Richie, Keith (Toots), Wiley, Tyise, Frankie, and Dawn.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.

Obituary - Raymond "Pete" Palmer Hall

Raymond Palmer “Pete” Hall, 90, Nevada, MO passed away on January 28, 2020 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a brief illness. Pete was born March 14, 1929 in Osborne, KS to John W. and Mabel A. (Palmer) Hall. On May 1, 1958 he was united in marriage to Nellie Ann Swait in Nevada, MO and she survives of the home.

At age 16, Pete came to Missouri and graduated from Charity High School in Elkland, Missouri with the Class of 1947. He served in the United States Army from 1951 – 1952 in Germany during the Korean Conflict with Company G 18th Engineering C Battalion. Following his time in the service, Pete returned to Elkland for a time before coming to Vernon County in 1955. He worked in the logging business for over 30 years and then worked an additional five years at the Nevada State Hospital until his retirement. Pete was a member of the Church of God Holiness in Deerfield. He loved to read, deer hunting, taking walks with his grandson, and the outdoors.

In addition to his wife Nellie, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Marsh (Charles) Ft. Scott, KS, and Judy Hall, Nevada; two grandchildren, John Marsh, Ft. Scott, and Anna Marsh, Ft. Scott; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Claude Hall, and one sister, Irene Pawley, two nephews, and one niece.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2020 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor’s Rex Scholes and Bill Smith officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment will be held at a later date at Ft. Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of God Holiness c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Graveside committal services for Nellie Hall and Raymond “Pete” Hall will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the National Cemetery in Ft. Scott, KS.

Butler man arrested on warrants

On May 20th the Bates County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Trevor Wayne Pajula of Butler, Missouri.

Mr. Pajula was arrested for two warrants for the following charges:

1.) 2nd Degree Burglary ($2,000 cash only bond). 

2.) Theft/Stealing (Value of property or services is $500 or more but less than $25,000)($2,000 cash only bond.)

Trevor Wayne Pajula was booked into the Bates County Jail in Butler and he is currently listed as bondable.

2022 Butler Senior Male Athlete of the year

Congratulations to Butler Senior Jagur Eidson on receiving the Butler High School Senior Male Athlete of the year award.

Jagur plays football, basketball, baseball and track for the bears and has been a great asset to our sports program over the year. 

We would like wish Jagur and the rest of the graduates of the 2022 class the best of luck in the future! Thank you for all you have done for the school.

Jagur is the son of Tim and Cheri Eidson. 









Harrisonville Police seeking public assistance

On 5/19/22, at about 3:45 p.m. (1545 hours), Harrisonville Police Officers took a report of a stolen catalytic converter from a vehicle that was parked at the Cass Regional Medical Center on Rockhaven Rd. 

Officers were able to get some good photographs of the suspect vehicle seen in this post, a white Dodge truck.

Obituary - Harold Eugene Hunt Jr.

Harold Eugene Hunt, Jr., or as most of his family called him, Jr., age 60, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at his home in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

Jr. was born July 26, 1961, to Harold and Sondra (Neely) Hunt. He was soon joined by a younger brother, Daniel Gene, and several years later by a little sister, Misti Dawn. Jr. became a father in September 1983 to daughter, Courtney Jill, and over the years became a granddad to three grandchildren: Logan, Katelyn, and Lincoln.

Growing up, Jr. played on many different ball fields and made many friends along the way. He also enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, and, of course, watching the Chiefs play.

Jr. worked with Nielsen Construction for more than thirty-five years, finishing concrete all over the Kansas City area. His family has many precious memories of Jr. growing up. He was a quiet man who enjoyed listening to all the old stories his uncles told. He would smile his little quirky smile and shake his head a bit as he visited with friends and family.

Jr. is survived by his daughter, Courtney Smith, and husband, Gary; grandchildren: Logan, Katelyn, and Lincoln Smith; brother, Daniel Hunt; sister, Misti Hunter, and husband, Curtis; nieces, Sondi and Sadie Hunter; and nephew, Waylon Hunter.

Jr. will be missed by his family and friends.
