Way to go ladies!

Kacie Robey, Alisia Dugan, and Mary Jackson received these awards today. We were asked to join the retirement reception at the Butler Elementary today and was surprised to receive awards of appreciation. It means a lot to us to be recognized and it is much appreciated.

Alisia and Kacie will not have a student in the building next year but we will continue PTSO and are hoping to have many more members to join in order to continue providing extra support and activities at the school. We truly couldn’t do it without the help of our community, students, and staff.

Again thank you for the continued support and taking pride in being a Butler Bear!!

Belton School District hires new Director of Accountability and Instruction

The Belton School District has hired Belton High School Assistant Principal Kelly Crumley as Director of Accountability and Instruction, a new position starting in July 2022.

This position will be instrumental in implementing and maintaining district-wide school improvement processes related to Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP-6) standards, as well as developing historical student and school level data files to monitor performance and address achievement gaps.

"I am excited to be able to make a difference in a new position in the Belton School District. The position will be challenging and it is very motivating to know my efforts can make an impact on teacher and student success district-wide," Crumley shared.

Updated Obituary - Dawn Renee Lewis

Dawn Renee' Lewis, 60, of Adrian, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at her home in Butler, MO. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Adrian Christian Church in Adrian, MO with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Virginia Cemetery in Butler, MO. Memorial contributions can be made to Show-Me Christian Youth Home and Virginia Cemetery.

Dawn was born August 16, 1961 at Independence Sanitarium in Independence, MO, to Ernest "Bill" and Elnora "Ann" Weeks. Dawn and her brother, Bo, grew up on their family farm near Amsterdam, MO. She attended Miami School in Amsterdam through her Sophomore year. Dawn's family moved to Adrian prior to her Junior year of high school. She was married after high school and to this marriage had 2 children: Ashley & David. She graduated from Adrian High School in 1979. Dawn attended cosmetology school after High School. She worked as a beautician at her grandmother's salon after graduation, then went on to work at Harla's Hair & Tan and Studio 201 from where she retired.

Dawn married the love of her life, Steve Lewis on November 5, 1988. Dawn and Steve met at a Bowling alley in Raytown where they both were on a bowling league. They shared a home in Raytown for a few years before being relocated to Farmland, Indiana for Steve's job. There Dawn enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. After 5 years, they moved back to Dawn's home town of Adrian, MO where she went back to work as a beautician, and finished raising her family. They bought Dawn's grandmother's house and have lived there ever since.

Dawn enjoyed life! She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, gambling (especially in Laughlin, NV), traveling with family, dancing, spending time in her swimming pool, reading her Bible, playing games and doing puzzles. Most of all Dawn loved spending time with her grandkids! She was blessed with 6 grandchildren, all for which held a very special place in her heart.

For anyone who knew Dawn, they knew of her glowing, contagious smile. She was kind-hearted, humble, and didn't know a stranger. Even though Dawn was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age, she never let it get her down. No matter the news she got she always kept smiling, staying positive, remembering it was all in God's hands. Dawn was thankful for every day and relied on her faith in God to get her through.

Above all Dawn was a Wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, and Wife. She loved talking about her grandchildren, they were her pride and joy. She took every opportunity to spoil them, always asking them if they needed a "little pocket change." Dawn never missed her kids' games and was always the loudest cheerleader!

Dawn was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Weeks. She is survived by her husband, Steve Lewis of Adrian, MO; son, David (Andrea) Patterson of Adrian, MO; daughter, Ashley (Aaron) Turner of Creighton, MO; her five grandchildren: Aiden Turner, Alex Turner, Rylie Patterson, Morgan Patterson, and Landon Patterson; and her brother, Bo Weeks of Adrian, MO.

Dawn was loved immensely by her family and friends! She will be missed greatly but will always will be remembered!
