Peculiar man arrested for Burglary in Deerfield

During the evening of May 21st, Vernon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of Walnut Street in Deerfield, MO. 

According to Sheriff’s Office Official’s, while searching the area, deputies noticed a window broken out of a local business.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said that while Deputies were speaking to the business representative, (who identified items missing from the business), they received another call of a suspicious person near the post office.

Deputies responded to the area and made contact with 38 year old Jeffery Carter. During the investigation, Deputies located items, described by the owner, in Carter’s possession. On 5-22-2022, the Courts issued a warrant charging Carter with 2 nd Degree Burglary, Stealing and 2nd Degree Property Damage.

Mr. Carter is currently being held at the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond. Sheriff Mosher said he was glad the Deputies were able to locate the broken window and the missing items taken from the business.

Obituary - Huleigh Jay Wilson

Huleigh Jay Wilson, 77, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at his home in Nevada.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada. Friends may call now and until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested in his memory to Nevada Community of Christ Church or the Nevada R-5 Scholarship Foundation c/o Ferry Funeral Home.

Update from the Belton Police Department on the crash on Northbound I-49

**Crash Alert** 

Alternate routes are advised. Northbound I-49 north of MO 58 Highway. At approximately 1:34 pm today, Belton Police Department received a call regarding a crash located on northbound I-49 north of Missouri 58 highway at about the 175.0-mile marker.

When emergency personnel arrived, they learned of multiple crashes involving six semi-trucks, an animal transport trailer, a wrecker truck, and a Ford Explorer. 

Some vehicles either slid off the roadway to avoid a collision or struck another vehicle. Several of the semi-trucks are still in the median but off the highway. These trucks will be towed after rush hour traffic at approximately 2000 hours this evening.

Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare Announces Darla Salmon’s Retirement

Clinton, Mo. – (May 25, 2022) – Golden Valley Memorial Healthcare (GVMH) announces the retirement of Darla Salmon, System Administrator.

“I have worked for GVMH for well over half my life,” said Darla Salmon. “Working here has been a growing and rewarding experience. I am really going to miss my people.”

“Darla is one of the pillars that laid the foundation of the Information Technology (IT) department at GVMH,” said Kyle Goth, Infrastructure and Support Operations Manager. “Her knowledge and wisdom has been passed down to so many others, including myself. I would not be in my role today without her! She has given an amazing 42 years of service that will not be forgotten. We wish her the best!”

In recognition of her retirement, Salmon received an award with her name and years of service engraved on it.
