Heads up if you travel through Grandview tomorrow

A message from the City of Grandview - HEADS UP:

Crews will be closing one lane of Northbound I-49 tomorrow morning between MO HWY 150 and 140th St. Expect delays during rush hour!

Osage Valley Electric Cooperative peak alert

Due to an unseasonably hot weather pattern, unplanned outages at three generating units and projections of declining wind later this week, our power supplier is asking Osage Valley Electric members to “voluntarily” conserve energy on Thursday June, 16th and Friday June, 17th from 2 - 8 p.m., when peak energy use will occur.

During Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, our members made a difference by conserving energy to help the system through that event.

We know we can count on you once again! Here are ways you can help:
✅ Raise thermostats a few degrees. Any increase from the usual will help.
✅ Limit the use of large appliances such as your washer and dryer.
✅ Unplug devices that are not in use.
✅ Turn off unnecessary lights.

Vehicle pursuit of stolen truck leads to arrest with drugs and firearm

A lengthy vehicle pursuit Sunday afternoon led to the arrest of a Nevada resident by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said deputies were notified of a white Honda Ridgeline that was driving recklessly in the area of east 1413 road, and another report a short time later in Nevada.

A Sheriff’s Deputy located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop when the vehicle failed to pull over.

The deputy chased the vehicle onto North I-49 where additional units were notified for assistance. The pursuit continued on I-49 into Bates County, where Bates County deputies were able to deploy tire deflation devices. Two tires were deflated as a result, but the vehicle continued to flee.

The vehicle then took the Appleton City exit and turned East onto State Route 52. A short time later the vehicle left the roadway as the tires were beginning to fall off the vehicle. The deputy then took the suspect into custody without incident. Bates County Deputies also responded to help.

The vehicle was found to be reported stolen out of Lee’s Summit, MO and a firearm and suspected illegal drugs were also located in the vehicle. The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Skyler Mason Fenton of Nevada, MO. Fenton was wanted on felony warrants for his arrest.

The following day the courts issued charges for Fenton that include:
• Tampering With a Motor Vehicle
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
• Possession of a Controlled Substance
• Resisting Arrest

Fenton is being held in the Vernon County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.
