Mizzou Alumni Bates County Student Send-Off and Picnic set for July 14th

Join the Bates County Mizzou Club on July 14, 2022 to celebrate Bates County students who are headed to Mizzou in the fall! 

A catered meal will be provided by Butthead BBQ, and Mizzou Athletic Director Desiree Reed Francois and other coaches/athletic staff will be in attendance.



Obituary - Floria Jean Lehman

Floria Jean Lehman, 70, of Calhoun, Missouri passed away Monday morning, June 20, 2022 at her home. She was born April 21, 1952 in Morgantown, West Virginia, the daughter of Edward Shaffer and Enda (Nicholson) Shaffer. She married Dale Lehman on November 11, 2007 in Clinton, Mo. He survives of the home.
Floria was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church. She enjoyed the slot machines, traveling with Dale while he drove a truck, cooking, going to the zoo, but mainly enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandkids. She was a very loving and nurturing person. Additional survivors are four daughters, Tina Davis (Steve Lynn), Warrensburg, Mo., Angela True, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Amy Kirk, Urich, Mo., and Donna Blevins (Daniel), Clinton, Mo.; one son, Claude Robertson (Natasha), Clinton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Shaffer, Morgantown, W.V.; one brother-in-law, Jack Winemiller, Oak Grove, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Robertson; her parents; one brother and several sisters. A Celebration of Life will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton. Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com.

Pauline Ridley, age 85 of Amoret, Missouri died Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at her home. She was born February 21, 1937 to Elmer Arthur and Tressie Charlotte Ford Hoover in Butler, Missouri.

Pauline was a lifelong resident of Bates County, Missouri where she attended school in Butler. She worked as a homemaker, was her own boss and enjoyed the freedom of creating her own schedule. On February 7, 1954 Pauline was united in marriage to Jimmie Ray Ridley Sr. and to this union, five children were born.

Pauline enjoyed being outside and driving through the country. She also liked to cook and was known for her homemade noodles . . . and putting peas in her taco meat! She loved all animals, especially her dogs and cats. Pauline was always helping people and a giver around the Amoret community to any neighbor in need. Pauline loved the people and the Amoret community. Once a lady in town was having car trouble. She said Pauline drove her back and forth to work in Butler for two weeks until her car was repaired. She mowed the Benjamin Cemetery for many years. Pauline and sister Bonnie collected trash in Amoret and the rural area for Spud Welston Trash Service as long as they were able. Spud took good care of them. Pauline served on the Amoret City Council and read water meters for the Amoret Water District. She also worked for Herb Dunlap during pecan season and helped to care for disabled Mrs. Dunlap. If any thing was happening in Amoret she was involved. Pauline loved Amoret and her friends there. When Pauline could no longer take care of herself, her daughter Terry and Amoret friends took good care of her.

Pauline is survived by one son, Jimmie Ray Ridley Jr. and wife Deeanna of Adrian, Missouri; four daughters, Robyn McKinney and husband Ray of Warsaw, Missouri, Charlotte Ridley-McIntyre and husband Ron of Wichita, Kansas, Terry Payne and husband Tim of Butler, Missouri and Jennifer Nickole Ridley of Macks Creek, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and beloved kitty Ginger and dogs Poncho and Stella. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don Hoover and Steven Hoover; five sisters, Helen Lough, Bonnie Hoover, Mary Ann Knox, Betty Collins and Norma Ridley; her husband, Jimmie Ray Ridley Sr. in 2005; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rae Ridley; and much loved kitty Tom and dog Sophia.

Traffic Alert: Overturned semi truck on I-49

The Missouri State Highway Patrol along with Bates County Sheriff's Deputies and Butler Fire Department responded to a overturned semi truck this morning in the southbound lanes of I-49 near mile marker 125 which near the Miami Creek Bridge in rural Bates County.

The driver of the semi refused medical treatment at the scene of this crash and the highway is currently shut down so crews can clean up this mess.

A wide range of high temperatures across the region. Far northern MO looks like the place to be where cooler temperatures are expected. Today looks nice with maybe a sprinkle this AM.
 
Off & on showers & t-storms are expected over the next few days with the heat returning for Saturday.

Obituary - Harold W. Lane

Harold Wilbur Lane, age 92, of Independence, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Carmel Hills Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Independence, Missouri. 

He was born on December 17, 1929 in Lincoln, Missouri the son of Charles Lane and Mamie (Davis) Lane. He grew up in Clinton, Missouri and graduated from Clinton High School.

Harold served in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then went on to a thirty-six-year career for Trans World Airlines as Lead Mechanic, retiring in 1991.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mamie Davis, a son, Clifford Lane, a daughter, Melody Tibbets and three brothers; Leonard Lane, Edgar Lane and Charles Lane.

He is survived by his daughter, Valorie Kropf, and husband Emery, of Independence, Missouri, four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services for Harold W. Lane will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 24, 2022 at the Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.


Remembering a fallen hero this Friday night in Pleasanton Kansas

We lost a friend, a father, a son, and volunteer firefighter that went out of his way to make sure we were all safe and on behalf of this community. I’d like to put together a gathering for firefighter 9203 Josh Haynes of the Linn County Rural Fire District. Everyone is invited.

Friday night from 830pm-930pm Main Street will be closed down from Haynes family store to the accident site. 

Everyone is invited to join for a lighting vigil and a moment of silence for Josh Haynes. Will also be welcoming people to share memories about Josh.

Please bring your own candle, lighter, or some form of lighting.
